A little deceiving on state sales tax, saying what you pay is like a car payment. Of course that is compared to paying zero sales tax. Most states will have about a 7% sales tax, so you are paying about 2% more in Tennessee. On that example of $18000 you site, that is only $360 more inTennessee compared to most other states. No state income tax and super low property tax more than offset a measly $360 increase in sales tax.

with all that said. when ALL forms of taxation are included. income. sales. fees etc there is not a whole lot of difference. if you only look at income taxes you miss much and if that is your only criteria then you will screw yourselves.
