Is The Sims 4 playable without any packs installed? (in 2025)

I think I really need to play through the basegame first and complete it entirely with one save file (if possible), completing all jobs, all aspirations, (playing with all townies and saving them in my gallery), unlocking every CAS item, traits and all Ingame trophies/awards, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Though I really love Seasons, the calendar but I really need to complete the Basegame first, just installing the basic Mods, like MCCC and those who are always working with every patch. Then, first thing when entering live mode, is to pause the game!!! Then clicking on a PC and making the right MCCC adjustments, to turn off Neighborhood stories, and to disable the NPC wearing random weird outfits. I want to try that immediately, and the base game is really great to build on. I'll try to renovate the houses of all townies too.

I wish I could use Mods from SimRealist, but his Mods break during patches and because I can't wait to play the game, I need to have just MCCC and UI Cheats installed, as well as the Mods from LittleMsSam and the Mods from Lorea and Simsefin. They update regularly. I also like the Mods from Andirz.

But the best Mods for Gardening are those from Scumbumbo and LittleMsSam, which makes Gardening faster, and the Harvesting 10 Plants Mod by Luthienrising. But Luthienrising I can't try out right now, maybe just on May, but not now, because I think its listed as unknown and could be broken. But not being able to harvest 10 Plants right on the way, makes the Gameplay much harder.

(Maybe we could still add those 10 Plants, just by having UI Cheats installed, going to the Collection Window under Gardening, and right-clicking the plants we want to have, then drag them from the inventory to the ground, and then shift-clicking the plant one by one to choose the plant quality.

I always choose one above normal, in my native tongue its called 'hübsch', which means pretty. And I use them as fertilizer. I put them in my own CC: Cardboard boxes with more than 32 stickers/swatches. I made them with the Eco Living Pack, but I made it so it should be compatible with the basegame.

When I finish playing the Basegame, I'll start playing the Gameplay Pack: Outdoor Retreat, but I might combine some other Packs that fits well with Outdoor Retreat, maybe Adventure Awaits? Or I just play Outdoor Retreat, finish it and then I try the other Packs I already bought?

But I won't buy any more packs, because of the EA buyout. Thanks for the video and have a nice rest of your day!

Lets face it, the entire point of having TS4 DLC is for us to BUY THEM. If you want a low level game experience; by all means go base game only. However if you want things improved; buy DLC. I for example love Cats & Dogs, Snowy Escape & City Living. I wouldn't put Lovestruck, Highschool Years and University Life in my game even if they were FREE. We are all DIFFERENT; and that the beauty of DLC. What you might REALLY want , I might think is utter crap - and vica versa.

I play only with the base game, and the only thing to really do is play legacies on short lifespan because at least then there's a baby or someones dead

I wish packs transferred to every device, I have sims on my ps5,Xbox, and pc, recently anadius shut down so I have 0 packs on my pc, all the packs are on my Xbox but it runs too slow, and my ps5 is js bare😂

I would play the sims but most of the aspects I’m interested in are essentially locked behind expensive paywalls. Ain’t no way I’m paying several thousands of dollars for that.😊

No computer, you do not have to sell-out your furnitures...
Go to a lLibrary, there are computers, and use one there until you got the simoleons to buy your own..

I honestly wouldn’t be playing the sims if I couldn’t have mods. They are worth the frustration when they break the game. Without them the game would be way too boring!!

I only play the base game I've never bought a pack in my entire life i dream about it but i can't i don't have the money and i could never afford it i enjoy the base game cuz i create different families and focus on their jobs and taking care of the kids i know it sounds bring and it does sometimes get boring but i always go back to it

I once saw someone say the Sims 4 base game was basically a sampling platter where you play it, and then you figure out what you want to expand on, and then you can buy one or two of those.

I think the best and only way to play with base game only is if you're playing the 100 baby or black widow challenge. Those are the only challenges I could think of that doesn't explicitly require packs... Even rags to riches is best played with eco living or fairies for the rummaging in bins and foraging. You could do decades without packs, but without livestock I feel like the game would still be limited. I hope that the sims game never, ever tries to branch out into some sort of historical pack, I am fully satisfied with the mods that people have made for decades and I don't want them to be rendered obsolete or messed with by any awful ea made mechanics :/

Can they atleast make some of the packs free? $40 for a pack is insane...

I feel like I’m in the minority of liking the events 😅 they are definitely basic, but sometimes they give me content that I’d otherwise need another pack to get or a new trait which is always welcome.

I am annoyed they locked the kids slide behind the toddler pack. That’s some I really want for my backyard, but I am not willing to pay for entire pack for it. Maybe if I decided that CAS is worth it, I’ll change my mind, but for now I really see the slide.

I love to play, even without mods, I play for years having a lot of fun. You just need creativity

I think Sims 4 is way more exciting with all the expansion packs, stuff packs and kits. It makes it more exciting and worthwhile playing. I like building houses or other buildings using the game packs objects. I don't think I've built one house that has only base game objects. 😂 Because other objects from other packs look nicer than just base game. 🤷‍♀️

In sims 4 CAS yeah sure you can make an OK looking sim (mostly female tbh) if you work hard for it.

BUT when I first created my sim I sims 3 CAS it looked better than NY first sim in the 4 CAS.

I want them to expand on making lager houses. For tiny builds or normal houses it's very easy to find stuff to make it alive or full. Yet a mansion feels very hard to fill without making the same room over and over again

I always wanted to play the Sims when I was a kid but I never had a computer. I got it for free on my console recently so I tried it and I am having a lot of fun. I played 100 hours and got bored of it but I picked it up again because I still didn't discover everything. I understand and somewhat share your disappointments, the game could be so much better.
Personally the base game offered me 100+ hours of fun which is fair in my opinion but I probably won't have more than 200 without packs. I would like to get some packs but they seem to only add a dozen hours of fun each, which for the price they are at, isn't worth it. I definitely can see how The Sims 4 is infuriating for old players.
I wish we had a Sims 5 on the way :/
