@ToppuTheo, thanks for confirming an idea I had a few years ago. My friend was going through a lot but wasn't an addict. He heavily resisted structured therapy but I got him convinced to go to AA meetings because they're full of people with enormously open hearts. I knew he'd heal from the experience. As far as I know, he still attends despite never using or drinking.
