There is some Spanish in your music video

I had a breakthrough a few years back. I read a sign that was listed in English and Spanish and the Spanish translation, while correct, basically said something in a different way because the phrase wasn't directly translatable. Then I thought to myself "If Spanish doesn't translate exactly, like word-for-word, why am I bothering to translate everything I say in my head first before I say it? It's a different language." After I started thinking about it that way, my fluency was much better. Still not all the way there, but that helped a lot.

Pienso siempre con imagenes. Cuando estoy hablando en un otro idioma, mi cabeza busca imagenes y sus palabras escritas. Por eso, me recuerdo de subtitulos en español que solo ve en mi idioma, pero lo que escuché cambia la imagen de este subtitulos en español. Es como un gran libro para niños ilustrado con recuerdos de cursos y situaciones.

This is a really, really interesting topic. I think most of us think using words. However there are other people, although I believe in the minority, that think visually. So just imagine a situation where you are trying to think or contemplate something without using any words at all. For me (as someone that can only think using words) it's near impossible. So you can see, as a new language learner, why it can be extremely difficult to NOT first translate in your head; quite naturally for most of us, for most of our lives our ability to actually think is inextricably linked to language and thus directly tied to our native language. It takes a LOT of effort to rewire your brain.

EDIT. I just got to the point in the video where you talk about associating words in the new language with pictures instead of words in your native tongue. This actually sounds like a great strategy and sort of gels with what I have said above. Great tip and I'm going to make a conscious effort to try this

Hola, perdóname por mis faltas, si la video es muy interesante, mismo si no entendio todas las palabras. Un comentario, puedo estar interesante de hacer la mismo video con la idioma Francés. Como la idioma francés es mi primera idioma, Me encuentro que tiene muchas palabras en Francés que son la mismo en español? es verde ? Pau , tu español es excelente, muy muy mejor que para mi, pero tu pronunciacón es dificil a entender o oir por un estudiante intermedio. Harry travail superbe, mas claro y facil a entender. Bravo

Este vídeo es interesante. Soy japonés y hablo japonés y inglés. Cuando aprendí inglés yo traducir mucho pero no estaba eficiente. Ahora estoy aprendiendo español sin traducir. En el futuro, creo que yo no necesito traducir cuando hablo español

Mi idioma nativo es Portugues pero cuando busco en el diccionario el significado de una palabra del Ingles uso el diccionario Inglesa de esa forma aprendo también el español, además del Ingles. También uso Ingles-Ingles y para el español el diccionario de la RAE.

Spanish has latin roots but english has both latin and germanic roots which makes it more complex and hard for spaniards

I’ve noticed that “do my best” is always translated to (I’m going to butcher the Spanish without actually checking the translation) do “todos las posible” - “everything possible”. Is “I’ll do my best” not a common Spanish idiom?

El mejore es quedarse todo el tempo con el idioma estamos aprendendo, por ejemplo, tengo quedarme siempre con el espanhol por que yo no hablo espanhol siempre.
Asi, quizás puedes focarte solo en espanhol.

Claro que es importante traducir, pero no tanto. Por ejemplo uso un diccionario solo en español y creo que me ayuda más, j'ai appris l'espagnol à l' école et j'essaie de ' réveiller mes souvenirs '

creo que es practica universal a traducir un tu propio idioma cundo estas aprendiendo un nuevo idioma. Unos trucos que quiero sugestar es escuchar los hablantes nativos del idioma que está aprendiendo. Con esta practico, desarollas un sensibildad de que es correceto o incorecto. Al final quiero decir que Easy Spanish se esta haciendo un trabajo maravilloso en dar los estudiantes de espanol un mundo para practicar.

English and Spanish (as well as many European languages) are believed to be descendents of proto-indo-european. It's probably why so many words are cognates between all of them
