BAND AID - How the Money is Spent
In the financial year to 30 November 2024 Band Aid has awarded grants of £3m across 16 projects to date.
Activities in 2024 include:
What a day this was. And night.
Was walking over sleepy Bobby bag campers to the rows of entry gates at 8am. Sat and waiting with many until first a few then more and more combed in from the edges and pushed in to an already packed queue.
I went and found security who came over and said shouted to point out any who had pushed in. Made them all get out.
Gates opened at 11 as the queues were getting too big. Made the 800m dash with the wife as quick as she could run.
Great spot.
Fantastic day.
Legends of music. From U2, McCartney, Madonna and Nnie Lennox. Elton John. The Killers. Robbie. The WHO, Floyd, REM …….. and many more.
We were first in and last out. Took a bin bag each for the light rain that came in late.
London Underground stayed on late as nobody wanted to leave.
Probably ate the last of the curries from the vans around the perimeter of the park.
We were staying at The Hilton on Bayswater road and my missus didn’t fancy the walk.
Flagged a car down.
A Mercedes driven by a late night pharmacist. Waved a tender at the red light. He stopped, we jumped in. He took the tender and 5 minutes later we were at The Hilton. Dressed like a pair of tramps we entered the foyer to protestations from the night porter.
Flashed our room cards and well to be honest I don’t remember a thing after that.
Amazing day n night for the amazing cause…
I have the DVD which comes out now and then like now.
Thanks for the memories.
Oh and I just remembered Cold Play - coz they just came on here in this play back.
Cheers to human life. To us lucky ones.
And I raise a glass to those less fortunate than us on our planet.
Let mankind be kind forever more and continue to share our wealth to those less fortunate.

@normatible9795Flippin' heck, has it really already been 20 years since Live 8?! Buying the Live 8 DVD a while after the concert aired, when I was 15, would become one of my most important musical decisions, as I'd end up watching and rewatching it untold dozens of times through the years, these performances informing much of my musical taste, but also serving as important portals of nostalgia for an indeed much better time. Genuinely my all-time favourite concert film- you could feel the hope, optimism, light, whatever you want to call it, in the air... it seemed electric beginning to end. I'd give anything to have been there. To think of all that's happened in our world since this aired...
