LIVE: FL v. George Pino - Day 6 | Boat Crash Manslaughter Trial

Video Overview & Insights

South Florida developer George Pino is charged with vessel homicide and manslaughter in a 2022 boat crash that killed 17-year-old Lucy Fernandez and left another teen permanently disabled. Prosecutors allege Pino was operating the boat when it slammed into a channel marker near Boca Chita Key, while the defense argues the crash was a tragic accident and that there is insufficient evidence to support the charges. Pino reportedly admitted drinking two beers and claimed another boat contributed to the crash. He faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

I cannot believe the way this trial has been presented. Why the heck don't they use a smartboard or something like that to show the photos and other visual evidence? Showing the jury a cell phone photo by holding the cell phone to the jury? Are you kidding me? This isn't the 1950's it's 2026 ffs! How many times does the prosecutor have to show the jury the same photo of the victim, Lucy to the jury? It seems like lazy attys on both sides. I wish I could start a court system graphics business service to help prepare slides, photos, graphs, maps, etc., so that the jury and audience can see wth the attys are talking about. I've seen other cases where they have this done, but there's always complications with the system or computer. it wastes everyone's time to wait for it to be corrected. A prepared team would have an IT/graphics person available during the entire trial to help with the presentation of visuals and audios too!
😪💝🙏🕊 RIP to sweet Lucy and her adoring, wonderful parents 🙏💞😪

This has to be the most annoying prosecutor I’ve heard. If I were in the jury I’d find him not guilty just because of her demeanor and behavior

This entire trial is a waste of time and money. Pino was in charge of the vessel. Therefore he is responsible for everybody and everything that happens on board ergo he IS guilty in Lucy's death and nothing else is required.

The defense is stretching the issue of high tide. Clearly Pino had driven his boat through this channel several other times before this incident. So he knew the markers and how come other boats have never hit this marker prior to this incident? No one was standing because of the speed he was going. He was clearly distracted and or under the
influence to hit that. Did he mean too no but he did hit it and Lucy lost her life and Cati is permanently disabled and the other girls have most likely ptsd. May Lucy rest in peace and prayers for the families.

The long haired defense attorney keeps saying “elided”. No sir, “collided”. The boat crash & injuries/death are not abstract! Do better !

I'm SO over this clerk, just going about her day like these witnesses don't matter, girl. BE QUIET, DAMN, turn off your mic!!!

@malissainman3613

I am frustrated that the defense has not stopped Mr.Pino's theatrics. It is distracting at best, truly disgraceful. The 17 year old witness can keep her composure, he should be able to.

Heck yeah I'm sorry for Lucy and her family and also the permanntly injured gal and her family. Gosh, i wish we could bring a better feeling to them, but we can't. I am very deeply concerned for George and his family as well. I'm not one who would convict him. It is just tragedy that can't be fixed.

This case is so dangerous..... If we start putting people in jail for accidents like this, we are in a very dangerous place as a country. This PSYCHO female procecuter has clearly never been on a boat, and BADLY wants to put this man away. This is so gross.

@SimpleM4N

That looks awful small to have 14 people on board.

@Talk-to-the-Pugs

This is so hard to watch. Sincere sympathy to Lucy’s family I hope that they get the justice that they so deserve. Pino has a very smug attitude and must have been coached in how to cry and seem upset. The endless notes he makes are unbelievable, there must be someone ready to write a book for Pino. Why would any parent allow minors to have alcohol. So much of the defendant’s case. Hopefully the jury sees through all the acting.

That is the smallest witness box I’ve seen. Poor guy has to sit sideways.

I fully agree with the defense, there is no impairment, there was no excessive speed, there was no danger in the number of passengers. Mr. Pino just didn't looked. Pino was distracted for so long that it should be reckless manslaughter. Any normal person should know that not looking where a motorized vehicle is going for so long is putting lives at risk, and Pino had the duty to look ahead. It's like a driver on a highway is not looking for 9 seconds and crash against a tree killing a passenger.

Today(jun 16th 2026) we are going to see how the books of law are going to handle thing called "not using common sense" which is not criminalized. Its not against the law in Florida to overload a small fishing boat with drunk minors as cargo + go full throttle in a way it takes two lifes (one deceased + one paralyzed for life). The "adult" in charge of the operation did not take the stand and explain WTF was going on = if there was a reason for this accident (a seagull hit his face etc.) so people can only speculate what might caused this tragedy. Now the money starts to speak: They buy the best liars for hire = expert witnesses if the judge does not rule the motion in defenses favoure. Though if this was a crime according to the state laws the prosecutor did poor job presenting this case - their 1st witness testified that Pino dived the girl from under the boat who sadly drowned. Too little too late. We can only guess if one/two minutes would had made a difference. Lets see when the judge shows up with her decision. Fact is: As a father of three i can say there is no amount of money or years behind bars which would give the suffering family their daughter back.

The worst part of this trial (aside from the obvious tragedies) is the judge not speaking into the microphone! OMG. And if I were on trial for these charges, I wouldn't be laughing with my attorneys and scrolling my phone. SMH.

SO GOOD TO SEE MATT JOHNSON HOSTING ON COURT TV! QUESTIONS:
DID GEORGE PINO ARM HIMSELF WITH A KNIFE BEFORE PILOTING THE BOAT? DID HE ARM HIMSELF WITH A GUN? DID HE ARM HIMSELF WITH A MACHETE?? I BELIEVE HE ACCOMPANIED THE GIRLS TO. C H U R C H. ON FRIDAY NIGHT! IT WAS AN ACCIDENT OF THE WORST KIND, AND I HOPE THE JURY FINDS MR. PINO NOT GUILTY - THE JUDGE WILL NOT DISMISS. MR. PINO IS SUFFERING AND WILL ALWAYS SUFFER FROM THIS INCIDENT. RATHER THEN SENDING HIM TO PRISON, LET HIM RETURN TO WORK TO MAKE MONEY TO PAY FOR THE JUDGMENTS --- FOR HE WILL MOST ASSUREDLY PAY HEFTY CIVIL JUDGMENTS IN THIS CASE. GOD GRANT MR.PINO MERCY. AND ALL HAVE LOVE FOR LUCIANA'S FAMILY AND KATY'S FAMILY - SHARE THE BURDEN TO DIVIDE THE OVERWHELMING GRIEF. MAY GOD COMFORT THE FAMILIES AND ALL THE GIRLS INVOLVED. "GOD I S. CLOSE TO THE BROKEN-HEARTED AND SAVES THOSE CRUSHED IN SPIRIT". NIV

This attorney argument at the end was silly

@junkandthangs

The tide (water level) does not matter. If skipper cant see buoy he can use binoculars or reduce speed. If he was not watching foward and therefore he crashed the boat he is responsible. I am proud owner of Volvo Penta D6-435 and she reaches max speed of 35kn/40mph with 435hp inboard engine + bow thruster but its a VESSEL = has a toilet, shower, kitchen, king size bed in front cabin + queen size bed in back cabin, and its meant for boating weeks at a time. People with no boating experience might think 40mph sounds slow but actually it is helluva speed if you think about the wave height 8m/26ft during basic bad weather or biggest waves measured here in Finland reach 15m/49ft height in pohjanlahti and itämeri sea areas. Boating between Finland-Sweden-Norway-Denmark-Estonia sounds easy sinse the distance from Finland(Helsinki) to Estonia(Tallinn) is only 80km/50miles but the sea itself can swallow a small boat like piece of candy. There is only 6 months of good boating weathers per year (during winter it gets -40F) and therefore we ride motorcycles etc. "summer stuff" all the summer while we can. September is already beyond boating season: in 1994 sep 28th M/S Estonia ship sinked and 852 people sank with it so august is the best and the last month for boating before it starts storming like hell.

@markkuhexen-sonderauftrag7760
@

Have they changed the marker since Pino crashed into it? No. Pino needs to look where he’s going and SLOW down if he’s not certain exactly where he is. High tide, low tide makes no difference! The markers are VISIBLE if you are looking!

@Pippilongstockings

I believe all of the families engaged in same type of behavior. The parents allowing their children to drink under their watch. It was an accident and the family of Lucy has forever changed and the other girl who is permanently disabled has as well. The other girls are sure to have trauma the rest of their lives. I think the defendant is going to be found not guilty if the trial even continues.

How many of us would like to spend time in prison for a momentary mistake? The situation is tragic, but that doesn't make it criminal. So why is the state of Florida prosecuting it? Big clue to the case's Civil nature is the testimony. We're learning about boating! Another clue is the prosecutor quibbling with the judge to win a sliver of wording that will put criminality into the jury instructions. He wasn't drunk. He wasn't going too fast. Accidents happen. People are dying to fry this guy as if they have no ability to put themselves in his shoes, which one day, any one of us just might be.

So sad listening to the coroner. Her parents should not be focused on. It breaks my heart seeing them. I am glad her brother is not present.

@Me94123

I think they need to make those markers bigger and also put signs that say "slow"? It seems so dangerous. I do think he was traveling too fast to go through those safely and with that many people on his boat. Terrible. Not to mention the amount of alcohol they were all drinking and most of them under age. If you google how many boating accidents happen by hitting channel markers, in the FL Keys, it is too many. They need to change that system for starters to save lives in the future.

Whoah. Judge didn’t just quickly rule, she is considering the motion of acquittal overnight. Thats wise of her to spend that time reviewing case law and the case at hand. This case could be tossed. It’s unlikely but it might happen.

I cannot stand the prosecutor - thinks she is so “ cute and funny “ with her “
You didn’t drink two beers before you did the re-enactment right ?”
No need for the snark/ sarcasm …. So unprofessional. Everyone knows that they didn’t and everyone is smart enough to decide form themselves if they think the two beers Pino had made the difference. I also find her to be so emotionally liable, aggressive, argumentative and totally irritating. And she is just really doing everything she can to “ tweak”
Things to make everything look as bad as possible …. She really didn’t want the judge to mention that the investigator brought up the issue of alcohol as per request or defense…. She clearly wanted to create the impression that he just spontaneously blurted it out …. When -
Come on- there is no way he would have mentioned the beets spontaneously given the fact that he tried to spin the story to minimize what may have looked like it was at all his fault . She is making him out to be a deamon - and I get that it’s horrific that these parents lost their daughter - but all of these parents are from the same “ wealthy entitled” circle and they all knew exactly what was happening on that boat.

Does this judge need to go back to Law School? It's like she's learning about these laws for the first time.

@lorilyn222
@

Perhaps, Pino was trying to impress his passengers by ‘skimming’ the Marker 15. A tiny wave, a tiny motor acceleration, wind gust or misjudgment caused the crash…!

@jimdenzler389
@

Ya know, all I can think of is the parents of the girls riding that boat were not only ok with them drinking, but also ok with themselves, drinking and driving a boat... whats the difference? Simply luck? But they wany to feel some sort of fake/phony "Justice"?! This wont bring their girl back, it wont fill any hole, or loss.
The parents were there, they WERE OK WITH THIS.

@simpinainteasyESQ
@

Question… are you all able to chat during the trial? I’m unable to see comments during the case?

@theconsines64
@

A GPS doesn’t account for waves. Boaters accelerate to brunt waves. So if he sped up to ride a wave it’s not wreckless quite the contrary it’s bracing the people for impact from a wave….standard boating…even on a kayak you face the wave and row harder…power boats same foundational principle.

@go.love.glow.4388

I can’t even look at Pino. Just terrible.
