"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers — loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
This list actually was propaganda, the WHO created their own list done around the same time that had different results. That said, 7 out of the 10 on their worst states to live in list were Red states.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on YouTube. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
Apparently Arkansas is the most prolife state as well
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news — the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
trump has America Derangement Syndrome!
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
TN represent!!! We suck. Lol
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on YouTube, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do — even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
One of my friend's coworkers asked her what she thought the most patriotic state was.
She thought about it, and then replied, "Massachusetts".
She said her coworker was enraged 😂😂😂
It's honestly baffling. The conservatives should be happy that we're patriotic. They should be happy that we celebrate, and remember, American history. But when they find out that we do all those things, they're angry?? Why?
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks — who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago — the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king — the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
Also, top 10 states for life expectancy are HI, CT, UT, MN, MA, VT, WA, CO, NH and NY so 9 out of 10 are blue. And 9 out of the 10 worst states are red.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Yeah. If you center your economy on the few. Only the few will do well and the majority will suffer. Lol. We need to help the WORKING CLASS. When will bootlicker Republicans realize it
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best — the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all — class issues,” he said on a recent episode.
How the FUCK did Mississippi not make this list.

Wow Utah is better than Tennessee?
@1KnightWalkerTell any republlican you meet to move back to texas.
@TheBokdolI don’t know why this would be surprising. Generally, the better a state is for business, the worse it is for people.
@TempestinBluemost Red states are so dangerous... would never go there.. sundown towns all over the place.. racist folks are all over... na
@loloc7664We love you guys, Kyle and Krystal 💙
@aimeerichardson6762Kyle pretending blue states are actually socialist. Most Democrat politicians are neocon and neoliberal FOH.
@maaduchvdaziachi9872I'm from Connecticut. Unfortunately, blue states tend to have some of the highest cost of living and also some of the worst wealth inequality. It is very sad that lower income people cannot afford to live in states that respect their civil rights. :(
@19iorfinopI hate maga but Tennessee ain’t even bottom 20 worst states bruh Mississippi and Alabama and Arkansas are all significantly worse
@thealbanianmonke218I'm from Indiana, and this totally makes sense. If you can avoid the dumbasses and you like nature, then Indiana can be great, but otherwise it's irritating to be around some of the ppl around here.
@GraaviticusIIII live in Indiana and I agree 100%
@Vexan90Is anyone surprised? The least educated states are overwhelmingly red/Republican ran and the most educated are blue. This is why Trump loves the poorly educated
@ightimmaheadout290The free market lie has been used to destroy the working class in America. Free markets should be good, but that’s only if everybody’s operating in good faith. And considering that productivity has outpaced median wage growth by about four times since 1979 proves that free markets really don’t help Americans as much as they want us to believe
@erikcad8630And.... if you want to keep your job, you'll relocate when your corporation does. Some people have a vestment in their 401K or in their pension, or maybe they planned on retiring with the company. So they'll stick it out as long as they can. What's also great, is that all the migration of liberals is going to help dilute the redness of those states. So I am encouraging it. More liberal voters will flip them blue! Keep drawing in big businesses, and this is what's going to happen. And yeah, I live in one of those all red states, and I can't wait for the day when we flip the seats.
@Stretch19315:02 Naw I'm either going back to Florida or going to New York ngl.
I left Florida in 2023
EXACTLY,ALL LOSERS
@erinsmith7468And when they had the gall to call other countries "shitholes" they were projecting, as they always do.
@zapermunzBlue America needs to stand up and take charge, the rest of the world is rejecting the racism and misogyny of Red America. Dim Dems need to join the rest of the world and reject the banana republic that the Fascists have to offer. Sorry, they are NOT conservative and NOT Christian, SCOTUS has betrayed the values and principles of both through lies and deceit
@eringo-bragh4243It’s funny how good for business is the only metric the red states cling to and yet most blue states still out class them in business opportunities and general standard of living.
@samuelmwrightTop ten states for businesses to exploit workers and what is their average wage?
@eringo-bragh4243Shocking it’s all states willingly participating in a fascist reorientation of our government.
@mickeydoodle69BRAVO MASSACHUSETTS!!1 Definitely the most educated state of ‘em all! I went to college there and did my training there and it definitely made a difference! 👍👏👏👏👏
@rubyred6954The red states are the welfare states. they’re receive funds from the blue states that’s how they stay alive. And the only reason why Florida and Texas have some money right now is because the people from the blue states moved down there Open of businesses, created jobs for their people and developed their states. Before that, they have nothing. I’m from New York and I used to travel down south back in the 90s. Those states look like a third world countries.Texas, Florida you name it.
@DAL799Live in mo and can confirm, it sucks.
@gregorymeyer5451Every northerner I've ever spoken to that moved south told me that if there was no snow where they came from, they NEVER would move, it would not be worth it.
@niasea3484Oklahoma should be 1st.
@rozorahkI did 5 yrs on the Idaho side of the ID-WA border and felt like I entered the "normal" world whenever I went to Washington. I live in California now and is probably the most-based state for worker's rights. I fought tooth and nail to get basic unemployment when I was laid off in Idaho because they were hounds on trying to collect back any "overpayments".
@GirtonOramsayMy humble tribute to the algorithm.
@vanish23-or5fzIndiana is a living hell hole and it's getting more and more expensive to live here, I can't take to leave again.
@willboler830And everyone of those Top 10 states have a Republican Governor, a Trump kick-ass- er, ok with a poor economy in their states, no employment growth, poor health care, and with a high cost of housing. And they are ok with Trump saying "the high cost of housing is not my priority". You Got That Charlie?
@JJard-vq9mlI live in Missouri and the Republicans are trying to pass an amendment that would make all ballet initiatives like a electoral college situation instead of popular vote because we passed initiatives on weed and abortion that they didn't like.
They are also trying to get rid of income tax and increase sales tax to make up the difference.
They really suck
I feel like both sides sense this, but one side doesn't admit it. It's kind of obvious.
@gregmezera6571*MAGA millionaires are fleeing blue states to move to Texas and Tennessee
Normal people hate texas and Tennessee
Damn! Only 4th??? Next year we’ll make the podium
@Twice_openedI have a friend who moved to TN and no shade to any individual out there, but the stuff he says about the people around him really makes me wonder what is in the water out there.
@Phantom742-f6iWe've known for years that the worst states to live in are all Red states. Their bubbles must be truly impenetrable if they are only now hearing this.
@metalgear87091Blue states have much higher education rates because they're more intelligent than the MAGA Morons. In my life experiences at 60 years old it has stood out to me that the more intelligent people with higher education are left wing and actually give a fukk about their fellow human beings especially people not so well off. It makes sense that people with a strong conscience are more intelligent than the right wingers with no empathy for others
