MASSIVE 10ft Tuna... We Broke a Record! (Commercial Bluefin Tuna Fishing)

We took a trip up to Boston, Massachusettes to fish for Giant Bluefin Tuna with Capt Scott Campbell of Boston Fishing Frenzy Charters. We were commercial fishing for Bluefin Tuna which means we can only keep fish over 73in long. We ended up catching a boat record setting fish weighing over 800lbs and nearly 10ft long! This fish went to a local fish market and will be sold. We walk you through the entire process of how giant bluefin tuna are caught and sold commercially in the U.S. Despite what you may see on TV, Bluefin Tuna don't sell for tens of thousand of dollars advertised. the media has sensationalized this fish and even claimed they can sell up to a $1,000,000 which is simply not true. The fish we caught will most likely sell between $3-$10lb with a 651lb core ranging from $1,800-$7,000 total. This fish was a new boat record! Scott had caught a 107in fish a few weeks prior and this one came in at 115in.

@kartinikasari5916These bluefin tunas are not endangered and their populations have exploded over the last 20 years. In the late 80's and early 90's there used to be commercial Japanese boats that would approach fishermen after a catch and buy them directly from the captain out at sea. Back then they were worth a fortune.

@jacobstangier7528This is gambling at its finest. You only know of the species of fish, the amount you'll be paid depends on the color of the meat and the fat content within it. So yeah a big beautilful fish like this can bring low dollar amounts or if you're really lucky you'll make bank.

@DidderlyIs it possible to catch that Tuna on 20lb test line if you took your time? I'm just a shore or aluminum boat casual fisherman in lakes, rivers, ponds - I've never used down riggers or even a fish finder. Thought I'd ask you pros out there. TY
@Tanya-un8wiI am 58 when I was in my twenties I used to do commercial online for sword and tuna we had hooked on to a bluefin tuna that literally was 1600 lb he was so big he bent our crane it took every one on the boat to get him on board it was an experience I will never forget but good job that is a really nice size tuna
