Maul and Qui Gon's Death | Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999)

Maul was much younger, faster, and fought with pure aggression. Qui-Gon on the other hand, was much older and was physically exhausted. Maul caught him off guard when he struck his chin, leaving an open shot into Qui-Gons chest.

Maul deserves a spinoff origin film. Interesting character

I would have loved to see how qui gonn would've survived. Then during order 66 Anakin would've killed him, making obi wan go in exile with regret seeing how a former apprentice could bring such terror to the order and the galaxy

I love how obi wan used this to kill maul many many years later by baiting him into the same move

Always thought it was silly Darth Maul having the High Ground and proceeds to just watch as Obi leaps up and over him

What should worry Maul is that although Obi-Wan was FURIOUS his rage clearly wasn't compromising his lightsaber technique. To the point he actually cut Maul's lightsaber in half.

Obi Wan and Anakin had their own special connection, which is why it hurt so much when Anakin turned. However, I think what a lot of people overlook is that Obi Wan promised Qui Gon that he would train Anakin because he was “the chosen one.” Obi Wan lived the rest of his life feeling that he had let his master down.

And yet maul survived by using his anger

When Maul came to Obi wan on Tatooine, Obi Wan goes into his usual form starting stance then switches to Qui-Gon's stance, maul did the same block and instead of hitting the blades like Qui-Gon did, Obi Wan cut straight through the hilt. Very Cool, he learned, got better, Maul didnt.

I always love how Qui-Gon touches Obi-Wan's face as he's dying. You can see how fond he is of him, like a father to his son.

I always wondered why obi wan didnt just break the laser gate seperating them. He has a lightsaber, just slice the circuitry and it disables

Maul went 3x same move before killing him, makes no sense, Quigon has master defense and would have blocked it..

1. Maul blocks attack with hilt same speed & direction towards quigon face

2. Maul does same movement again towards quigon face but misses or fakes it?

3. Third time he does same move and finally hits quigon the greatest defensive Jedi in the face. Ofc anything is possible but the movie didn’t call for that.. still the best lightsaber battle of all time.

Always bugged me Qui-Gon didn't acknowledge how Obi Wan just destroyed a Sith Lord.

Watched this at 0.25 speed to admire the choreography of the duel, and especially the moment of Qui-Gon’s death (comparing it to Maul’s, which I also watched in slow motion), but ended up having the wonder ruined by laughter when Obi-Wan’s “Nooo” went on forever. lol. Gotta love the slo-mo, yo!

Qui Gon would've taught Anakin how to control his emotions and channel his passion and love for good.
The duel was over the fate of Anakin.
Qui Gon lost the duel.
And thus, the galaxy's fate was set.

Something really peaks my curiosity that at 0:34 they both do a double take at each other. Then at 0:38 obi-wan's exctiement fades. It's as if all three of them sensed in the force what would happen
