It is a stunning achievement of human engineering to make an entire continent look like a dusty biscuit. Why bother with variety when you can have the same rundown brick box repeated until the horizon catches fire?
The Australian dream is clearly to own a tiny patch of dirt where the grass has given up on life and a stray bum can use your front porch as a bathroom. It is a glorious sea of terracotta tiles and peeling paint that really captures the essence of a civilization that has just stopped trying. Those shitty little yards are not badly kept, they are artistic representations of the inevitable heat death of the universe.
And the graffiti? It is just the local sheep trying to prove they can hold a spray can without falling over their own ass. Every tag is a cry for help from a thirtysomething who still lives with their parents in a house that smells like damp carpet and stale Vegemite. It really adds that lovely touch of urban decay to the monotonous brown landscape.
Melbourne really is the crown jewel of this grime. You can walk through any suburb and feel that delightful sense of deja vu because every street is a carbon copy of the last failure in urban planning. It is enough to make anyone want to jump off the West Gate Bridge, assuming you can find a spot that isnt covered in bird shit and halfhearted vandalism.

@Samramos4488Melbourne is great except for the weather. Weather really sucks as it changes quite a lot during the day and you don't even know what to wear sometimes. None of the seasons feel alright, it's hard to distinguish the seasons in fact. It's almost 6-9 months fall / winter and the rest is spring/ summer. But then again, the temperature changes quite a lot daily. There are no good beaches near the city and the water is always cold. After 7 years, I had enough of this crazy weather and moving to Brisbane. Good luck to everyone who is moving to Melbourne.
