It works also without having to make the contraption if you pre-dunk all of your rusty items in Slick 50 for a few minutes and then securely dangle them from the pendulum of a grandfather clock over an even mix, a few inches deep, of P-Gravel, Course Sea Salt, and Self Clumping Kitty Litter..

Allow the pendulum to drag your items back and forth throught the amalgam for one to two hours or overnight.
For extremely corroded items, consider a liberal addition of Tough Actin' Tenactin to the amalgam. Rinse and repeat as needed.. ymmv.
