Mobile Gaming Ads Are Effed Up
Video Overview & Insights
Mobile game ads aren't trying to sell you a game, they're trying to manipulate your brain. The impossible puzzles, fake gameplay, and intentionally bad players aren't mistakes, they're the product of algorithms that discovered lying is more profitable than telling the truth.
Didnât realise George Costanza was behind this allđ
Behind every click is a multi-billion-dollar industry built around psychological tricks, microtransactions, and finding the tiny percentage of players willing to spend thousands of dollars.
This video explores how fake mobile game ads took over the internet, why games like Homescapes and Gardenscapes advertise gameplay that barely exists, and how click-through algorithms optimize deception. We examine the psychology behind the Zeigarnik Effect, Cost Per Install (CPI), user acquisition arbitrage, microtransactions, and why mobile games care more about getting you to click than keeping you entertained.
I feel like they've gotten better. Now,I only gets, ads with real gameplay & really cheap old-model AI voiceovers.
We also uncover how AI-generated ads, "whale" spenders, and behavioral algorithms are reshaping the future of mobile gaming, and why the next generation of deceptive ads could become even harder to resist.
Are fake mobile game ads simply annoying clickbait, or are they one of the largest psychological experiments ever run on the internet?

I remember when smartphones were introduced and the games on the App Store were great
As mentioned multiple games soared in popularity at the time
But now I donât even bother trying mobile games unless their from one of my favorite game publishers, because I know that they either want me to keep purchasing and rarely deliver the game they promote to you

Thereâs so many ads that are AI slop, have stolen gameplay and assets, or all of them. One time I kept getting an AI generated video of a fake Pokemon mobile game that uses the Pokemon logo, and Google Play still has this app.

More User Perspectives
Play mobile games on airplane mode. No internet, no adds.
@UncontainablePickle-_420Last war. They're really good at most of this
@meisterbost6899Hard truth
I saw many games with such strategy including Iconic Shadow fight 2 normal editions and switched to Shadow fight 2 SE for no ad experience version
Almost all the Mobile games are poisoned with Ads and become more addictive and manipulative
That's a reason I have un-installed many ad-ware games in my devices
Before Ads were less or avoidable but today's period ads are unskippable or unavoidable
I just don't get it (and will never do) how endlessly dumb one must be to actual get affected, play (and pay) for this bullshit...
@Miho90Just me or 6:58 having some ai artifacts?
@kohicsgoThere should be mandatory labeling of games that are offline and don't rely on 'management slop' and consumable power-ups.
@Orozco_PNWThe moment an ad pops up I close the game or app, I donât have the time or care for that bullshit.
@UNORTHODOX_Mecha chameleon started as a shitty mobile ads. Until someone saw the potential of it being played on steam
@AkosiJeThroThe ads of Gossip Harbor make me don't want anything to do with them. Sad wife/mother get cheated on by her ex-husband and got kicked out and live in a ruined house that we need to fix? Yeah, that's a guilt trip and I hate it
Project Makeover is probably that one game that I find actually better than its ad
I'm getting AI slop mobile game ads while watching this video. XD
@UltimareBack in like, 2012-2013 I think I had an LG Envy and it had a complete mobile remake of the fist BioShock. The ggraphics were about as good as an early PS1 game (if that) and you had to download the game in bite sized "chapters." So, you'd walk through a couple rooms and hallways, defeat some baddies, and when you got to a certain door or checkpoint, you'd have to download the next chapter and overright the previous. It was, like $5.99 or something for the game.
I LOVED it. I didn't have a playstation or xbox at the time, just Nintendo Products. I thought, "This is amazing, full-scale games right on my phone for such a cheap price. The benefits of playing a game on the go in bite sized chunks was amazing and the downgrade in graphics or lack of features was worth the lowered price. I had SUCH high hopes for mobile games.
Then, all of a sudden freemium style games started coming out, and all these cheap games started coming out. Companies learned that a click and wait game with pay to play, pay to win games could bring in a handful of whales who spend hundred or thousands of dollars in game were FAR more profitable then releasing a mobile game for a couple of bucks that play like a real game.
Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. Mobile gaming COULD have been a great space for indie developers to release full retro-style games or full games that were short and exciting but not up to console quality. But, because people decided paying for games on a phone just wasn't worth it, no matter how good they are, and the regular and hardcore gaming public started embracing indie and retro games on marketplaces like steam or directly on consoles it kind of sealed the deal for good games on mobile phones.
It sucks too, because now that phones are basically small computers we could get amazing games on the play store. And, to be fair their are some great remasters or straight up redistribution of older games on mobile and some great freemium games out there, the majority is just shovelware.
The one upside, is that because phones have gotten so good, you can play full, console-quality games on mobile now through things like GamePass Ultimate, Amazon Luna, Steam Link, etc. But, the ACTUAL app stores are just endless landfills of trash with a few good gems few and far between.
I wish Nintendo would have stuck with making games for mobile because the few games the released after they announced they were moving into the market were actually fairly decent. Like Super Mario Run, while nothing more than a basic endless runner, was actually kinda fun. And, of course, Pokemon Go took over the world for a whole summer. Mario Kart mobile was decent. And, there were a few more before they just kinda stopped.

@DanteTheSinEaterPsychology is great at attracting consumers, but marginal propensity to consume and save causes players to Uninstall the game in less than 24 hours. The psvhologists are hoping the part of the brain that feeds obsession will override MPS and return utils(abstract measurement of happiness). Obsessed players are profitable but eventually they look for thrift. Thrift is as simple as a exploit that breaks the game.
Otherwise,
Rationalise a mobile game as console expense and game expenses. $500 console for 5 years and 4x$60 for $240 a year in New games. In that sense, developers don't need to feed <variable income> obsession. They do need to feeed new content and complete current content.
Mobile games are worse than casinos. At least casinos are up front about how they exploit people.
@OmegaZyion10:25 I've seen so many unskippable gossip harbor ads that they give me physical rage just seeing these
@AlbertFanCTWhoa, I was unsubscribed from this channel when I clicked on this video.. yet I've been subbed to this channel for years
@Ty-Comments0:00 nope, its perfectly clear they're lying on purpose. They USED to be accurate
@RamNathSharma-i6nIt's pathetic that there's no good game on mobile anymore. The early gameloft games were amazing. Now they ask you to pay for things like extra inventory space, labelling storage boxes đ„Ž.
@jameskattoor1415This channel use to be awesome. Now it is just sad and pathetic
@adamshourds1144Infographics show: Stops using AI for Voice again finally.
Also infographics show: Just uses AI for the animation instead
That's why I play on YouTube. No ads.
@CheemycheemsI always have 1 F2P game installed on my iPad. I play it regularly w/o ever putting any cash in at all, and earn Fetch Reward points for doing so. And as soon as I max out the available points, it gets deleted off my iPad forever.
@KentBunnApp Store sucks there's nothing good on it, and if you are someone who spends money on a mobile game you are literally a special type of stupidđ
@AngryGnome87I never click on those games, and if the advertisers are dumb enough that they're paying for that, they're gonna blow millions. I play like Zenless and Skullgirls sometimes. Match 3 in 2026? You're kidding
@OwariDrawsWhy, why can't I save de woman and the child freezing on a destroyed house??
@CamilaBezerraMiragemAll it did for me is that I don't try phone games anymore. I have a few I play from before their stupid ads started, but now, I just don't even try them.
@zoeye7095Spending money I donât have on Honkai Star Rail
@gowtherliones89991:25 was it really popularized by candy crush? Because Candy crush is a total rip-off of bejeweled which if there's people who just don't know what bejeweled is that's just sad because bejeweled was absolutely huge 20 years ago. Everybody knew what it was and even during the early 2010s be jeweled was so popular that there was even a board game about it despite Candy crush existing at the time. Candy crush really does not deserve to be the one that's compared because they ripped off bejeweled.
I guess Candy crush their marketing found a way to popularize it but it was bejeweled who did it long before them and who knows maybe there was somebody even before bejeweled that we don't know about, much like how most people don't know that angry birds is a blatant rip-off of crush the Castle
1:07 are you sure about that so many of the ads I see for games are of games I would just never play so are you sure it actually knows what I like? I don't think it actually doesđ
@Sly88FryeSo how you opened up this video is completely false about me. I am not some guinea pig because I never fall for those dumb ads of bad games. In fact on a lot of games you could play there's an option to actually tell it to stop showing you ads for that game. Even on YouTube there's an option to tell it to stop sending you that particular ad that keeps being shown to you. Was that option being available, you can easily being the guinea pig entirely by never seeing those same ads again. Yes they'll send new stupid ads again but you can just keep going with the don't send me this again option.
@Sly88FryeOr people will give up on mobile games completely and shift to other quick activities like microfiction.
@AlverantI remember playing mobile strike almost a decade ago, and in the beginning it took so much time to build up your strength, there were so many tasks, etc. then they start selling packs that let you buy your way stronger, without having to do the timely tasks, (like autocomplete) then they start selling developers remodeled the entire game and gave it two separate sides of the game, which soon followed the same format as the original side, etc. it was easy to get upset that you spent so much time building your base and doing alliance battles, for someone to just start the game and be stronger than you cause they spent the money to have it all. I ended up not playing after that. (I had spent money as well, I should say, several hundreds of dollars, and would still end up weaker cause I didnât spend enough) someone spending the time on the game would always end up weaker than someone you bought it.
@bobbitaylor7217Makes sense why I never got to save the homeless woman and her child from the biting cold winter storm. đą
@C-Williams21Those Kingshot ads are annoying af
@BigChucka419Got tired of the BS of mobile games. Deleted all my games and I couldn't be happier.
@canny3d!
@aaabbcccIf a mobile game doesn't support offline mode, i uninstall it
@ERR-NULL00All the damn clones of games like Last War Survival, Last Asylum, Evony, etc, all do the exact same game functions. Itâs also completely misrepresented in every ad. I hate them all. I swear itâs just AI churning out cookie cutter games. Ridiculous. Then the ads inside make you jump through hoops to actually close the ad and back to the game.
