For a moment his view of the ship was obscured by a squall: when it cleared, she was gone. He tried to alert his senior officers, but was not taken seriously. Also worth noting that those waters are dominated by the treacherous Agulhas Current, a powerful tropical current running southeast past Durban towards the Cape of Good Hope and the colder waters there: the Current is a major part of the reason why the Good Hope has claimed so many ships over time.

People should define the difference between a "ghost ship" and a ship that has been abandoned.
An abandoned ship is NOT a ghost ship, a ghost ship is an illusion like the Flying Dutchman.

The Waratah was located in 2009. Her position hasn't been disclosed to stop diving on her, as she's on a ledge.
My theory is she capsized. Her crew reported her as top-heavy on her final trip. If she did capsize, the heat of the boilers coming into contact with the icy water of the South Atlantic would have ruptured her boilers, explaining the blue flash reported on shore. No wreckage had been found as the explosion was contained by the hull.

This channel can only be taken in small doses with how depressing most of its content is but its always fascinating.

The phenomenon of large patches of natural Gas underwater out gassing is fascinating. It seems that gas bubbles can destroy the buoyancy of water, and possibly even effect aircraft immediately over the area. it would explain a lot of Ship and even Aircraft disappearances. I remember a documentary where they proved the right amount of out gassing sunk a small boat, proving the theory. This could expalin a lot of " Bermuda Triangle" disappearances. Maybe a good topic for your channel.

It’s a shame that enthusiast such as yourself and your assistant cannot keep these small bits of wreckage. Now, if you find something historic, by all means, bring the authorities in. But these little bits of history are just gonna sit there and go back to the Earth. Why can’t a collector keep little pieces like this that would otherwise be lost to time? You are privileged to live in an area where such artifacts can be found and you’re not even allowed to keep them.

Strange to hear it here like a casual fact of how to identify people.

Obviously the ones that disappear somehow sank but what’s even more bizarre are the ghost ships they used to find decades ago just floating in the vast sea without any crew on board. What happened to the crew why abandon a ship that is still functioning so many questions.

I would not depart a supposedly sinking vessel until there wasn't enough of it remaining afloat to stand on!

The discovery of abandoned vessels isn't that unusual, from many of which, no trace of the persons on board is ever found!

Had those people remained on board, or fastened their lifeboat, liferaft or escape boat to their main vessel, they would have quickly realised that it wasn't sinking, or in any other way a risk to their survival!

Instead, they apparently cast off from their perfectly seaworthy main vessel and were lost at sea, whilst their main vessel remained afloat and a place of safety on the sea!

Imagine abandoning your only safe haven on the sea, for a tiny, open tender fit only for rowing on calm bodies of water...
