Great comments as always, agree with most. 2001 is hands down the best. A few others to consider: Forbidden Planet, Metropolis, The Shape of Things To Come, Robinson Crusoe on Mars, and both versions of The Thing.

Europa Report is such an underrated film. I was genuinely surprised when it was thrown in as a late addition.

1:30 I prefer the original script for the Matrix because the writers thought that the machines would use human brains for computation. We're just NOW getting to brain interface technology AND are now able to train human brain cells to perform tasks (such as playing Doom)

Here's a movie I'd love you to take a look at. I think it deserves so much more, besides a sequel.
For me it came across as a movie that was made on a budget, but it had to be made.

Sorry but the Terminator explains that much of the prewar registers are Lost so Skynet doesnt have idea how Sarah connnor looks and his family (the Terminator tracks his family after finding the Sarah he's lookinng for)

I was 12 years old and my late mother took my brother, my best friend, and me to see 2001 when it first came out in a theater. I was hooked on Arthur C. Clark's writing and Science Fiction, immediately. It's always at the top of my best movies list.

I have to strongly disagree with a couple of your ratings. But, first, one that I agree with is "Deep Impact", which was released at rougly the same time as "Armageddon", and it is a far better movie than the latter. You liked the fact that it had some decent science behind it, but in addition the characters in the movie are much more realistic than in "Armageddon" which presents us with lots of macho swagger and decitful astonauts but few believable characters.
The ones I disagree most strongly on are "The Matrix" and "Arrival". The set up of the Matrix is just an excuse for lots of action and fight sequences (and it's fine as an action movie). You are right to complain about the use of humans as an energy source, but even if you accept that the macines, for some reason, have a food source for humans but need to convert it to heat, why humans? If the machines used cows, they'd never have to worry about the cows figuring out they're in a simulation. They'd just go blithely through the days chewing their cud and enjoying the nice weather. If we are to accept that the machines created this synthetic reality for humans, why do they leave so many holes for humans to find their way out of it? The whole red pill blue pill thing where you have to choose to swallow a do nothing symbol in order to get out of the simulation; an oracle that gives hints to help, but won't share what's really going on; machines in control of the rules of the simulation but can't change the rules as effectively as a single human. I don't buy it, anymore than I buy Thor riding a rainbow to Earth. The movie "Dark City"gets a higher rating from me. It has a similar theme of people living in a simulated reality, but the reason they are in the simulation is a lot easier to swallow than a "Matrix" blue pill (or was it red).
OK, on to "Arrival". I think it highlights the potential difficulties with communicating with potential aliens very well. In order to communicate, you need some common ground in concepts. All human languages have a lot in common. They action words like eat, or run. Nouns like horse or grass. At the very lowest level, you can start pairing up different words that mean the same in different languages. A cryptographer is attempting to figure out the human language hidden by a lot of subterfuge. But once through the subterfuge, you find ideas and language structure that you're already familiar with. The aliens are trying to communicate, not deliberately hiding what they're saying. If there's a complaint with "Arrival" it would probably be how easy it turrned out to be to communicate with the aliens. Think of attempts to communicate with dolphins; and they have experience on the same planet as we do.
Despite the disagreements, I enjoyed the episode. If you ever want to throw another movie under the bus, try "Waterworld".

The reason the AI couldn't bypass the middle man might be because it can't bypass its own duty, which is to keep humans alive and happy.

I like the idea of the blob. I imagine it like a slime mold. Where it has such complex biochemical responses it resembles intelligent. Like slime molds solving mazes or that one time it mirrored the design of a Japanese transit system.
