Oil Supply Won't Come Back as Quickly as Expected, Babin Says

Video Overview & Insights

Rebecca Babin, Senior Equity Trader at CIBC Private Wealth, discusses the current state of oil market dynamics. She says the market is overestimating the speed at which oil supply will return to pre-conflict levels. Babin expects oil prices to settle between $75 and $80 per barrel by the end of the year. She speaks on "Bloomberg Surveillance."

I'd really be ok if the USA would would just say look, Iran has a product we want and we have money, so let's just go buy it or trade something they want just like china does and call it a wrap. I was born in the 60's and my entire life has been bullshit wars that didn't need to happen. We've been really successful at butting into other people's business or trying to take something they would happily sell. But we seem to prefer violence.

Except it isn't the spot market that is saying this. WTI curve is not very downward slopping so there is no indication at all that the market is massively undersupplied. That may change when it gets closer to winter, but the curve itself is a much better indicator of the supply/demand situation than random people talking about how many tankers are crossing the Hormuz strait. Just the Saudi E-W pipeline reactivation makes a big hole in the argument about scarcity.

Germany demonstrated what happens when the currency lost all support.
The 1921 effect of printing currency in Wiemar Germany
seemed to be the death of teh German currency.

Theu US consumed the support system that supported physical currency by 1968.
Now the US attempts to prove the FED Printing dollars is a representation of value,
has hit a BRICS Wall.

Doesn’t take a degree to realize these “talks” are imaginary, Iran wants leverage (if it doesn’t have it already) of the strait. Israel and Lebanon are a separate issue, so exactly what is the good news exactly? Kushner and co. traveling more than a band on world tour.

@ahmedalsharman

If your listening to an equity trader about oil prices your a goddamn idiot. Supply WILL NOT COME BACK TO THE MARKET BECUASE IT ISNT THERE! The reason it is low is because China cut and is running off reserves. IT WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THEM DUH! Anyone reading this, simply go over to the flow maps and in out by barrel and LOOK! Its less than half! They have underinvested in domestic by billions since the Biden admin. IT ISNT THERE... You cannot listen to, or trust the media, these people don't know anything. The shit will be 100$ a barrel at least. Mark this comment, come back in 3 months. Read it again.

The good thing about higher crude prices means everyone who can pump, will pump.

All inventories are not equal. Viewing demand for storage and new chinese crude demand that is to refine and export products the same as demand that refers to the actual burning of fuel is a mistake.

Where oil is refined can impact pricing and technically more refining can increase demand for crude but more refining capacity anywhere in the world is good for supplies and lowers prices. The idea that refining oil in china somehow reduces global inventories vs refining in Russia is pretty lame. When has moving production to China ever caused inflation?

We have so much oil on the American continent that gaz should be free and the energy stocks should be at zero and that the oil oligarchs should pay for the machinery needed to save lives in Venezuela and across the world ... Gaza, Ukraine, etc.

Based on the current state of the strait, nothing has been resolved. Iran is going to strike out any time they feel ships are trying to bypass their toll lane. That's an untenable situation. It does not scream "return to norm".

Rebecca: 'I'm completely ignoring the fact that the President of the United States is allowing the Iranians to sell its oil and support its regime that undermines the world order that made America powerful and wealthy, murders its own citizens, and attacks all its neighbors and murders America servicemembers -- simply because he doesn't want his poll numbers to look bad. Instead, I'll just talk about money money money money and how to make more money.' And people really wonder why Americans hate Wall Street and people like this? Zero moral compass. None. It's all about money for THEM, that's it.

Gas prices going down is only a joke Trump and oil buddies are playing on the public. Ships may be leaving the Gulf, but no fool is going to send a ship back in the Gulf and no insurance company is going to insure a ship going into the Gulf. So the Gulf is still closed

Omg what? How is this possible? Can't traders just increase the number of contracts? Surely you can just move numbers around and prepare an optimistic PowerPoint that keeps the pricing stable? Is anyone thinking of the shareholders?
