The greatness of this movie lies in the fact that in the very last scene we understand that it isn’t just a simple love story. It’s the story of Nora’s identity, living suspended between two cultures.
When Nora says goodbye to Haesung and breaks down in tears in her husband’s arms, it becomes clear that the main reason she is crying isn’t because she doesn’t truly want to let Haesung go, but because by closing that chapter with him, she feels as though a part of her Korean self—tied to her childhood in Korea—is leaving with him.

In Nora’s tears, I see both liberation and the suffering of someone who is too American to be fully Korean, and too Korean to be fully American.
