Giuseppe Garibaldi stayed with the Duke of Sutherland and the Prince of Wales greeted him. Well....I wonder why??
Perhaps it was because they were all Freemasons. I remember reading that the Prince of Wales had taken Garibaldi to the Grand Lodge of England. That handshake means a lot....

It seems Charles has a lot of parallels with Edward.

The thing about Alexandra of Denmark is that her bloodline connections were extraordinarily important. Her father, Christian IX of Denmark, became known as the "Father-in-law of Europe," while her husband's mother, Queen Victoria, was remembered as the "Grandmother of Europe." Christian IX descended from the cadet Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Beck branch of the ancient House of Oldenburg. When his father inherited the Duchy of Glücksburg, the Beck branch became the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg. Christian IX himself was never expected to become King of Denmark, but after the senior royal line failed and the succession was settled by the London Protocol of 1852, he inherited the throne.
Alexandra married King Edward VII, Emperor of India. Their daughter, Maud of Wales, became Queen of Norway, and Norway's current royal family descends directly from her. Their son, George V, became King of the United Kingdom and Emperor of India, making Elizabeth II and Charles III direct descendants of both Christian IX and Alexandra. Alexandra's brother Frederick VIII continued the Danish royal line, from which the current Danish king, Frederik X, descends. Another brother became George I of Greece, founding the Greek branch of the House of Glücksburg, from which Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, also descended. Alexandra's sister, Dagmar, became Empress of Russia as Maria Feodorovna and was the mother of Tsar Nicholas II, which is why George V and Nicholas II looked so remarkably alike—they were first cousins.
In the span of a single generation, Christian IX's family spread to the thrones of Britain, Denmark, Greece, Norway, and Russia. Through Alexandra in particular, his bloodline became the direct ancestor of every British monarch from George V to Charles III, while the House of Glücksburg emerged as one of the most influential royal dynasties in modern European history.
