Raise the Titanic (1980) - The best movie scene

Video Overview & Insights

Raise the Titanic (1980).

yk, the entire movie shouldn't even exist because in 1931 or so White Star Line and Cunard merged. Cunard still has the rights to the Titanic and White Star Line today. Also this is also morally wrong as the Titanic is a gravesite, and should not be tampered with. But who cares.

The best movie scene [IMO].

Notices from Calamity Jade:

もし、タイタニックが2つに折れてなくて、実際に引き揚げられたら、一番ビックリするのはタイタニック号だろ。就役してた頃にはなかったヘリコプターやジェット戦闘機、仲間の軍艦や船舶も新しい、潜水艦も大型だし、車も建物も近代的だから。ちなみにカットされてるが、ソ連がデザニウム横取り目論んで、タイタニック号を再び沈めるぞと軍艦で脅しをかけるシーンがある

— @森智彰-f9g

1° The movie was made before discover of Titanic's broken wreckage by Robert Ballard, in 1985.

2° NUMA (National Underwater and Marine Agency) is a fictional US government organization in the novel of writer Clive Cussler. But in 1979, this author was create the real NUMA as a private non-profit organization dedicated to "preserving our maritime heritage through the discovery, archaeological survey and conservation of shipwreck artifacts" (Wikipedia.org).

I watch that

It’s a fun movie but pretty ridiculous 😂 even ignoring that they didn’t know about it splitting in two, it still plummeted thousands of meters to the ocean floor. They make it look like it just sat at port for a decade

I saw this on TV back a little before Titanic 97 came out. I didn’t realise it wasn’t possible to raise her at the time. (I was 8 or so)

Titanic: *being a chill guy in the under water

Everyone: Bro Titanic is small compared to all cruise ships! Even though the cruise ship are luxurious compared to titanic!

Iconic moment when the model came through the water. Filmed at Malta's Film Studios. That model laid waste in the studio for almost 50 years. I now believe that a group is restoring the model which is in fact great news.

The way the raising was filmed still looks epic today. Also the noise as she breaks the water is awesome. The music conveys pure emotion and finally Alec Guinness was awesome in this film. All in all a great film that looks good and poses a great what if scenario had the wreck been found in that condition.

I had heard so much hate about this movie but this honestly look amazing for a movie made in 1980.

@Thyruss

Nice movie, pre wreck discovery time. The movie is based on the fact that the wreck was still undiscovered in 1980 and they tought it was in one well preserved piece. Instead today it would be like to try to take a big carboard box completely soacked in water. It would disintegrate into pieces as you try to grab it. Like a biscuits after you soak it in the cappuccino.

Actually a shame the ship wasn’t in good enough condition to have something like this possibly happen, not to mention how deep she is

Great movie at the time - good plot massive model to give realism fantastic score. Characters were good. Outstanding performance by Alec Guinness. Guess the people saying it was rubbish bored by anything with less action than a Marvel movie.

Raise the Titanic,Watched the full movie,They would had a better chance of getting the shipwreck out of the sea ocean back in 1980,Would been less rusted up then,Less likely to happen now,It broken up in to two parts,It Raise up in to one part

@dalebenton3354

What really helps sell this entire sequence is that sweeping yet majestic John Barry score. The likes of his music is sorely missed.

I'm sure it all seemed a great idea during this pre-1985 time. But if Titanic really had gone down intact instead of splitting and it was therefore possible to raise the wreck, it'd probably be wise to give it a full decontamination first before going on board. Mainly cuz of bacteria from being underwater for so long. Not to mention it would probably stink from being down there for so long.

@AndrewChapman
@

Before 1985 they really believed it was in a similar condition due to the lack of oxygen and didnt believe the survivors so they thought it went down in one piece. 1985 they were proved to be wrong

Even if it were possible to raise her, i dont think itll be safe to go onboard cuz everything will be all rotten and there is alot of debris down there, its very deep and as soon as it hits the air, it might just fall apart and if they raised it and it didnt fall apart, why would they transport it to NY? Take it to the closest location which might be Newfoundland or the Halifax Harbour. I say just leave it. Use the money for other pressing matters.

As the camera passes the raised Titanic near the third funnel (where the man pumping water is) and first funnel there are what appear to be iron rings on the deck which I am guessing were for attaching cables to give additional support when the model was being lifted by crane?
Yes this movie is one of the biggest flops in film history but you cannot deny that the producers weren`t tight-fisted when it came to budgeting on special effects/sets and the impressive model they built solely for use in one film to leave it to rot in Malta.
Still an impressive scene to watch but it will only happen in a movie never in real life.

Although we all know this is totally unrealistic and could never happen, plus the knowledge we have now that Titanic split in half. There's something moving about watching the entire ship being lifted in one piece and seeing sunlight again. And then being towed into New York, where she was destined to arrive at.

Imagine being able to walk around parts of the ship, especially the Grand Staircase. ❤
