10:55 this is a million years late but in my history undergrad we definitely still use the socratic method and we will be using it in grad school as well
but it makes sense since a lot of law students have backgrounds in history

Plot summary fro Netflix:
Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) has it all. She's the President of her sorority, a Hawaiian Tropic girl, Miss June in her campus calendar, and, above all, a natural blonde. She dates the cutest fraternity boy on campus and wants nothing more than to be Mrs. Warner Huntington III. But, there's just one thing stopping Warner (Matthew Davis) from popping the question: Elle is too blonde. Growing up across the street from Aaron Spelling might mean something in Los Angeles, California, but nothing to Warner's East-Coast blue blood family. So, when Warner packs up for Harvard Law and reunites with an old sweetheart from prep school, Elle rallies all her resources and gets into Harvard, determined to win him back. But law school is a far cry from the comforts of her poolside and the mall. Elle must wage the battle of her life, for her guy, for herself and for all the blondes who suffer endless indignities everyday.

I laughed. Just so you know, I will give you some numbers, as well.
1. Nothing prepares you for law school
2. A sizeable percentage of law students drop out.
3. Probably 50% never practice law a day in their lives. They go into daddy's business.
4. Law school does not prepare you to pass the bar exam.
5. He mentioned about trying cases as a law student. I participated in a jury trial in inverse condemnation as a law student.
6. Most people who graduate law school, never try a civil jury case. And most state attorneys avoid trying a federal jury case. I have tried both.
7. The reality is unless you go into a high faluting law firm, you will do your court work through on the job training and not in a classroom. Clark Clifford graduated law school in 1928. He finished law school with no job, no clerkship, and no prospects. He later described himself as “a young lawyer with no clients and no money. He went to a judge for an employment suggestion and was given 15 minutes to consult with his client and ordered to do a criminal jury trial. He handled everything - criminal defense with no pay; handling cases for more important lawyers who rather spent their time in the office. He became the Secretary of Defense.
1928. A professor had graduated from Harvard with an SJD in 1928. My class with him. When you were called upon, you stood at attention next to your desk. You recited elements of the case in a specific order , followed by your opinion of whether the case was correctly decided. If you were called on three times in the semester and were unprepared, you failed the course. If you were absent three times without a doctor's note, you failed the course.

Objection! The legal gibberish when she's impersonating a lawyer is the joke and the point of the interaction. It's supposed to be gibberish because she ISN'T a lawyer, has no idea what she's doing, and is faking it to the best of her (at this time very limited) ability to help her friend. Kinda icky to ding them for legal gibberish when it's supposed to be gibberish, they're not implying what she's saying in that scene is supposed to make any sort of sense.

I get asked a lot about whether being a practicing attorney is like being a lawyer on TV. I love watching legal movies and courtroom dramas. It's one of the reasons I decided to become a lawyer. But sometimes they make me want to pull my hair out because they are ridiculous. Today I'm taking a break from representing clients and teaching law students how to kick ass in law school to take on lawyers in the movies and on TV. While all legal movies and shows take dramatic license to make things more interesting (nobody wants to see hundreds of hours of brief writing), many of them have a grain of truth. Being TA in engineering is very much not a coveted position. Most of us are just in it for "for the love of the game" so to say. There are no rewards. No money. No scholarships or internships coming out of it. We are just bored and want to help our fellow students

@badworld02I tend to like the Socratic method of teaching as I have adhd, reading comprehension dyslexia, and pragmatic disorder and it really helps me learn. But I am okay with being wrong and at my school they do it in a way that doesn’t belittle you for being wrong

@SososthlmObjection. I am a teacher and I do use the socratic method in my teaching in both high school and middle school. These sessions have brought about creative ideas to solve problems in our state by digging deeper into problems and into the science behind them. 7 or 8 years ago, my high school engineering students designed a plan to mitigate the increasing intensity and frequency of forest fires in CA. Their plan was highly creative but practical at the same time using modern technology that we actually had available and that technology is even better today. Cal Fire is working with the CA university system to design a very similar plan now and I can't wait for them to begin is use. My former students writing will be very proud that they came up with an idea that the experts are now turning to. That wouldn't have happened without the socratic method in my class.
