I know where he's coming from saying his Dad is German and was very rigid with his rules. My Dad was the same way, but at least I had my Mom to soften the environment.

I have a friend like this. Every week he will tell me about his wins, and how solid his bank account is. Hundreds here, hundreds there. Every other week he tells me how he’s broke, doesn’t have any money. And if he’s not losing everything, he’s buying something expensive with the wins that doesn’t hold long term value - on video games, a new phone, junk foods, etc.

I've been addicted for five years. I can't fucking stop. I feel defeated after 5 years and two trips to rehab. I keep relapsing. I feel like I have no future because even when I don't gamble I barely have any joy in my life. Nothing feels meaningful. I want to recover still.

I once met a guy who won a $1 million lottery ticket. As soon as he cashed it, he quit his stable job and moved from the southeast to Las Vegas, leaving his wife and kids behind. After taxes, a divorce and other legal issues, he was left with a little bit over 200,000. Within months, he blew most of it on hookers, nose candy, and in the casinos. He occasionally called one of our mutual friends asking for money and promising big returns. As he was down to his last couple of dollars, he won a large amount that lasted him about a year, until some hookers set him up to get robbed by their pimp. When he left to go to Las Vegas, he had a full set of teeth and hair on his head, a family and a stable job. Two years later he came back missing teeth, balding, had no job , no wife and a son addicted to meth.

Watching this super informative video—honestly answered a lot of questions I’ve had. But what blew my mind? Every single ad that popped up was for a casino. Every. One.

That alone says a lot about how hard this stuff is pushed on people. It’s wild.

I was in 7th grade when 9/11 happend, i saw on TV Live when the 2nd plane hit. Tears come down my eyes whenever i think about that day.

It’s also personality disorders that make addiction easier to gobble you up. Seems those a-personality people who have to win, who have to be on top and be seen as the winner, the smarter, the more successful, the richest….whose addictions easily choke them.

All due respect to everyone, but Id trade my opiate addiction for a gambling addiction every time. My addiction is so expensive to 7OH that I might as well be gambling it away every day instead. Only difference is if I stop my body and brain shut down all happiness and energy unless I take it again

I can never say I expected what I go through. I was a drug addict who had a gaming alcoholic father and I watched it ravage him. I decided 1 day, I've always liked poker and was great at it. I went and played poker and when I won since I played online I would play blackjack chasing loses or trying to double my wins. I'm sober from heroin but I still gamble because well idk why. I'm bored all the time and I don't want to go back to prison for the 3rd time. So I deal with it but I know it'll be the death of me eventually

With the proliferation of online sports betting, we are implicitly developing an entire generation of young men that are developing an addition, setting themselves up for long term financial ruin and affecting their families and society in a way that we are not prepared to acknowledge.........

As far as gambling, I'm so grateful the first time I gambled in Vegas. I put $20 in the slot machine. I lost it right away and I was soooooo MAD that I've never gambled again. I quit because I was mad. Listening to these gambling stories further cements my decision to never start again.

I was in Vegas in the 80s as a 6 year old. They likely didn’t have cameras. I won 10 dollars in dimes. Coins Came falling out and I ran my fingers thru it and loved it. 😅. I’m not a gambler. But I did enjoy that.
