Oh how I remember the leeward rail being underwater. On my knees on the foredeck as the spray and water drenched me. There is only one difference, I was on my first boat. a Folkboat hammering along at 6 knots. You are a lucky man Toby and I am so envious. 😀

I 3D scan boats, then create 3D models of them in Rhino 3D for a living here in Australia, but your use of photogrammetry is also a vrey valid way to approach the problem, well done !!

I saw Endeavor back in ??? when I went to the America's Cup race in San Diego. I can't remember the year due to old age; however, I will never forget the yacht. I was on an Erickson 35 and Endeavor motored past us on the way to the racecourse. The crew waved as they went by. It was the most beautiful yacht I have ever seen. Knife blade bow and an equal amount of overhang in the stern. God, thank you for bringing back those memories. The race was between Stars & Stripes and New Zealand's Black Magic.

They have designed boats that go faster with less length but known that have this elegance and power.

Velsheda’s hull was rotting on the muds of Hamble, Southampton, when I was a lad. It was very sad. I saw the hull relaid at Camper & Nicholson. The Js were in some ways follies of the 1930s. Beautiful, heroic but near unwieldy follies.

Majestic is a word that comes to mind!! Outrageous, mind blowing, heavenly! And so much more. Ever since I first started sailing I have always dreamed of being at the helm of a J-boat. Nothing like it in or on the water compares to the sheer beauty, power and majesty of such a vessel. I am 72 years old and would love to sail on Endeavor! Thanks for the video, you just made my day, cheers and again thank you!!!!

While I truly revel at the sheer beauty and effectiveness of such an antique design, I cannot condone the idleness of the class that has made its continuation in this time and hour without a clear condemnation of the current state of affairs. All I can say is enjoy while the rest of’us cry on past glory

My friend Elizabeth Myer restored that yacht and now resides in Westport, Massachusetts. I know her and her husband very well and hang out on their farm weekly when in the USA.

How have we lost the design ethic that produced such beauty compared to the pig butt ugly boats we see today?

Just like the beautiful melody played by a violinist with and instrument made of wood and strings, a sail boat marries the sky, the sea, and its music is majestic....

The loads are scary. How they pulled together all the bits strong enough to do this in 1934 is something I need to read more about.

To sail on any J would be a dream come true for me!!!!!

I've had the pleasure of being at the helm whilst its 12 crew made everything run smooth in a constant 15kts and rolling swell from Newport to the vineyard. I remember it being a totally different sensation as the 130 foot length meant you would be spanning from one swell to the next. No chance of pinching up as you rose up on one wave and bearing down as you rode down the other side. A boom so wide you can walk down it so they nicknamed it Park Avenue. The chimney in the mast was a crazy specification too. Ended the day feeling like I was wagging my tail.
