Saying Goodbye, Starting Over, and Transitioning

Video Overview & Insights

Change is always hard. Transitions in life are difficult. Goodbyes are never easy. Endings are rarely joyful. But today, Fr. Mike suggests that beginnings are even more crucial. He encourages us to take 3 steps whenever we start over, and to let each one of ourselves “be a beginner.”

Out of all the times I wondered when a video about this topic would, it’s appears now. Father, it’s like in a way you just gave me a whole summary of how this season for me has been. I’ve reverted back to the Catholic Church after being with an evangelical church for about a year and a half. And what you’ve stated is exactly how it feels, as if I just had a whole summary of my season through your video.
Like you said, the shift to this new chapter is weighted, foreign, and so new. I went from finding happiness and an amazing evangelical small community, to finding myself going on this walk alone, but being able to have intimate time with God, even if it meant going through seasons of almost complete loneliness. But what you’ve stated say is incredibly true: the first step is so, so hard. But it doesn’t only get easier but you see the beauty in that decision and the new chapter that is forming as you let God lead you. And I’m in that place right now. Thank you for your wisdom and your reassurance Father. We are so blessed by you!

Be patient with yourself.

Don’t freak out.

Thank you. Your videos always come when I need them.
God bless ❤

And be willing to ask for help.

Fr. Mike has way more to say about trusting God, and a great place to start is his book Untroubled by the Unknown: Trusting God in Every Moment (https://tinyurl.com/25xulter). We hope it's a blessing to you!

I wish i listened to this a year ago where I just changed career. It is tough restarting my career. 🥲

Asking people for help (and believing people cared) was one of the worst things I've ever done in my life.

But asking God for help, on a daily basis, is essential.

This is from years ago! 😮This is what I’ve been praying about in my life. For God to guide and lead me to the right where, why, who and what to begin my next chapter. Then to continue to listen to him.

Very good advice, Father Mike. I’ll be retiring in a couple years after 30 years at my job. I will be sure to check out this video again, at that time. I’ve also shared it to my kids who are all in college.

Yes, religion is poison, is 100% fiction, or if you want religion fake.
Yes, it is time to change the status quo. The fact is that your religion is a facade. I have 72 years of experience with the Christian religion, and I know what a lie is. Yes, people are lying, but hearing lies from a person who thinks he can speak with religious authority makes it a lot worse.
The beginning is ten lies, and the rest is a history of—what? Of power over you. You don't need those people to know what is right or wrong; you know it by yourself. No father needs to explain that; believe your own intuition. It is that simple—no sins, no guilt, no nothing, just you. Amen.

This video came at the right time. I needed to hear this. It gives me hope especially where employment is concerned. Im anxious about a new beginning and what is to come, but the old season has ended. It was good while it lasted. I believe this is God assuring me and confirming what is coming will be greater than before. I just need to trust the process, trust God and his timing. 🙏

I'm worn out from beginning over and over again after every loss. Lord please give me strength. Only You, Lord make my days. You're my only win in life, my comfort, my shield, my Savior. Lord let me not not give up on Your will. Thank You for the the small goodness in my days, and I will rejoice in You despite my sufferings. I love You and I trust You even if all my days are painful.

It’s when we are in transition that we are most completely alive.😊

Once year the church should have a transition ritual for new widow and widowers as they begin their single life over.

Just lost my R. leg to doctor and hospital negligence. At age 70 it is hard to learn how to use a prosthetic. after a year of Phys. therapy, still can't walk. I don't think I have a lot of time to be patient. Also wondering how many people are getting amputations when they went in for knee surgery? San Antonio, Texas teaching hospitals are the worst!

Wow, I this is a phenomenal & sooo timely (for me)! 62, nearly 4 years after my husband left (we’re now separated), have been filling my life with major distractions (after all the legal stuff) while unknowingly experiencing deeper depression, tho functional. Now I’m in a state of “so, now what… how do I start over?” This helps me to know it’s OK to be a “beginner” in this “new” season. Thank you, Fr Mike. 🙏

I'm guilty of expecting the worst case scenario, so if it did happen, I'd be as prepared as I could be. Because of the trauma for my childhood it's not healthy. I'm seeing that now. I'm always like at war with myself

I when I was younger twice I went to mass and I didn't get bread. It's stuck in the back of my mind and now that I'm trying to restrengthen myself I just thought my grandpa raised me Catholic. What did I do to not deserve this like that's how I took it but it sticks it in the back of your mind. It happened when I was like 5:00 or 6:00 or 7:00 and then I was younger and I went up to Tennessee again. When I was 15 it happened again. I'm like bro. What's going on here? You know I don't know it hurts you but I'm over it but I'm just trying to remember all the things that strengthened me that gave me substance

I lost my mom. I wanted to get somebody's structure back and when I had my wife and wife it was was amazing. I looked at my grandpa in Memphis
