I made this for breakfast last week. I’ve got an abundance of cherry tomatoes so it’s 3 months of making sauces and lots of raw snacking. My friends like the ones I offload each year.

That's crazy that this video came out like 8 or 9 years before it became trendy with social media cooks

It's 1am and I soooooo want to go in the kitchen and make this, but I can't. I have to go to bed like an actual adult with responsibilities. 😢

Years ago as a teen this video introduced me to cooking. My house has always been fillled with many different kinds of chiles and I'm always adding sad looking leftover chiles in my shakshuka. However today I found 4 small overly ripe sad looking plums. Since todays shakshuka was looking ridiculously hot with habaneros, seranos, jalapeños and poblano I thought plums couldn't hurt. And thus plumshuka was born. It added extra fancy sweetness to balance out all the peppers. I'm a fan. I loved it. i don't usually buy plums so I probably won't get the opportunity to make shakshuka plumtastic again. Nonetheless it was note worthy.

This is by far the most fun I've had in the kitchen in a long time. Ya just chop stuff up and toss it in the pan. Once I've got a combination I like locked in I'm making a bunch to store in the fridge for lightning fast breakfasts.

REAL LIFE REVIEW
I just made this tonight for dinner. My family LOVED it. I used two medium onions and one cup of sliced Cremini mushrooms. I used two red peppers and one jalapeño WITH seeds.

The eggs I used were our own chickens’ eggs and I used eight for three people.

The only thing I did wrong was to overcook the eggs. BE CAREFUL! THEY COOK FAST!

I used Feta cheese and fresh parsley. My fam liked it BETTER with more Feta than suggested.

I served it with Jasmine rice on the side and they ALL asked for seconds.

Great recipe, Chef John. I’ve never made a single recipe of yours that wasn’t TOP NOTCH.

Even my REALLY PICKY TEEN DAUGHTER absolutely loved it snd wants it every other week now!

THANKS! Where’s your COOKBOOK?!?!

We will be putting ours over non traditional rice instead of bread. Mushrooms sound like a tasty addition too. I enjoy sardines simmered with onions and tomato sauce, occasionally ill add some curry powder too. I put that over rice. I may try adding sardines to your recipe.

4:39 "It has much more to do with lazyness..." ... says chef John... keeping it real.
Great part of this recipe is that if the yolk flows over to the sauce you lose a pure yolk but you get a creamier sauce.

This reminds me so much of a Hungarian dish we make all the time for Breakfast. In Hungary it's called lecso. So good. Pretty much the same but vegetables are cut in larger chunks and we use fresh tomatoes. Also adding some kind of smoked sausage or bacon

I love your recipes. You’ve told me so much. I have to say, though, lol, there’s something about where you put the emphasis and in the words that drives me crazy.😂😂 You’re awesome. 😎 Thanks for all the info

I just made this for the first time today with my own spin on things, and it turned out PHENOMENAL! I used a blend of this recipe and America's Test Kitchen Teen Cookbook's version, whereas I added a teaspoon of ground coriander and two minced garlic cloves with the spices, chopped up roasted red peppers (in place of red peppers), and garnished everything with parsley, cilantro, and cheddar cheese (didn't have feta). I also sauteed the onions and mushrooms with chilli crisp as well in the olive oil! Absolutely delectable dish and perfect commentary to put anyone in a cheery mood. Thank you, Chef John!

Chef John, this is one of the first few of your videos that I stumbled on while I was in a bit of a challenging time, and your cheerful spirit and playful attitude made me laugh out loud when I wasn't really expecting to, given the way I was feeling at the time. On top of that, after watching more of your videos, I could see the care and passion with which you cook, and I appreciated your tips and experience that you share, as well as your creative ideas! Thanks for being you, and all the best :)

How come I don't see anyone adding ground beef with Shakshuka
I would think ground beef with tomato sauce & eggs would be amazing 🤔

So who else did a search for Chef John and Shakshuka after seeing his brand new post of "Shakshuka for One?" I watched that, and thought it was amazing, as most of his recipes are! But...I live in a household with three other hungry adult guys and as much as I wanna make this, I needed to know how to scale it up! Well.. here it is. I can't wait to try this recipe this coming weekend!
