@1234nofearPretty sure you could and did row long ships, people would just not when they could sail?? Vikings built their long ships to be able to cross land in a pinch, very useful in colonizing Eastern Europe, they were light weight enough that rowing wouldn't require a huge crew to be useful, many ships were trading vessels.
