The interviewer is desperately trying to get his subject to diss Starmer, keeps asking loaded Qs, putting words in the mouth, distorting the answers, but Case remains his own man. It very much reminds me - mirror opposite, politically speaking - of Cathy Newman with Jordan Peterson.

The most inspiring thing here is the outfit.

I am coming to the conclusion that the Burnham ‘victory’ in Makerfield has been very carefully engineered by the state. A Cabinet Secretary of Mr Case’s stature wouldn’t speak ill of any PM unless advised to do so.
He is breaking a very old convention and one I cannot imagine anyone would sanction in normal circumstances.
Add to this the coronation of Burnham who has no plan, manifesto, ideas, policies or public approval then the whole thing seems incredibly contrived.
As usual the electorate get what they are given, satisfactory or not.

A very thoughtful listen and a great initiative to speak to Lord Case. It was startling to hear that the politicians did not want their departments to be cut to pre-COVID levels. The "half the size and double the pay" idea is a great idea as long as we don't then morph into a tight core team of civil servants being spoon fed by contractors and consultants.

A man in his former position, with his experience could have informed viewers of a greater in-depth understanding,
of the relationship between the Civil Service and successive governments,
especially, in light of
the recent sacking of the permanent under secretary (PUS) Sir Olly Robbins, at The Foreign Commonwealth and Devolopment Office. (FCDO)
in relation to the appointment of Peter Mandelson as the UK Ambassador to The US.

Starmer seemed out of touch with the expectations of the electorate. And as a result he made no decisions or bad decisions, pleasing no one.
