At this point it's not even a meme that devs are like this one meme GIF of "How dare you" when we say anything negative or don't buy their games.
Thanks for watching!
On this channel, you’ll find long-form video essays about gaming’s biggest stories from studio collapses and corporate greed to the creative risks that still push the medium forward. I break down industry trends, publisher decisions, and the economics behind how games are made, marketed, and sold.
We ain't seen nothing yet: Steam is going to be rolling out real world performance metrics for users that opt in to send their performance data and system specs to Steam. And I imagine that will go right beside the publisher's system requirements. Another win for players.
Whether it’s GTA 6, Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, Path of Exile 2, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Pokémon, or the next doomed live-service experiment, I cover how the industry’s biggest names keep shaping and breaking the games we play.
From deep dive analysis on publishers like EA, Bungie, Blizzard, Activision, Ubisoft, Sony, and Microsoft to commentary on indie hits like Palworld and Expedition 33, every video cuts through the marketing to get to what actually matters: how this industry works, who it’s failing, and why players deserve better.
How lucky for them that GTA6 won’t be coming to Steam right away
More User Perspectives
When a game in mixed i check why , most of the time the problems is not related to me and i buy the game and have fun with it. You should always check the reviews before buying anything to know what you are buying. For example Mistfall Hunter an extraction PVPVE game which needs to play against other players, if someone complains because the PVP element there is something wrong with him because why you buy a game that you don't love the concept of it.
@pain3134Imagine if you could Steam review anything
@billyisboredsteam values consumers = profits / the industry values everything that's not a consumer = wHY ArE We lOSinG mONiEs????
@muttputCompanies: "Cut corners, add these things our 'sponsor' wants, and ship the game."
Gamers: "Cut corners, added garbage from 'sponsors', cannot recommend."
New gamers: "I see, I don't want to play this game."
Like pottery, it's almost as if everything works as intended.
Thank Gabe steam is on our side
@TheAbeKaneNothing pisses off an executive more than an informed customer.
@Hooskerdoosone reason I always respected the hell out of Grinding Gear Games as they made listening to their audience part of their development passion in addition to the incredible levels of stubbornness in tracking down certain bugs, that they've shown
@ScottGodinI love democracy.
@vladimirdosen6677Its crazy that steam is becomibg more important even though pcs are getting so expensive.
@uniquenmIf the media didn't focus on politics so much instead of really reviewing a game for what it is, we would still care about their opinion. The gap has now been filled with youtubers who are much closer to us. I don't trust the IGN banner anymore, I trust this and that specific youtuber that knows his shit.
@Aeon-wi1vt“Other players just explaining their experience to other people”
That’s the whole point for a game review
As much as I appreciate Steam reviews, I will always remember the hate campaign run on StarField and Fallout 76. While some of the hate is justified for both, they are both enjoyable games to me. So when I see words like “boring”, unplayable, loading screens, I take that stuff with a grain of salt.
@Kellett781guys setam the only shield we have
@download_gamingYou mean Rent Now button
@dracul1838I DIDN'T KNOW YOU HAD ANOTHER CAT! I LOVE THEM.
@DagraenionFunny thing- the industry prefers its "criticism" in narrow corrals where it can identify and punish those who step out of line by withdrawing access or pre-release review copies. They can't do that with individuals who put their own money on the line. This is part of why there's so much emphasis on early FOMO, and so little on long-term support.
@sterling7Our goat gabe and steam...long live tha king!
@ddmask-melPlayerbase has become even more powerful than ever, yet they're still paying for battle passes
@verdugoij123these big game corpo's must've never flipped a burger in their life. Work in retail, fast food, or just about anywhere that deals with customers.
Customers are always right. We are the customers. If your game sucks, we'll tell you with our wallets by not giving you a penny.
When I buy a game on steam I can play it offline anywhere once it’s downloaded. Pretty much the only reason I want things to be on steam LOL 😂
@norecordingsoftware3309A MAJOR issue with AAA games is.
Imagine this. You work 9-10 hours being at a place you dont really want to be at. Youre hit all dayblong with real life situations, come home after thatbshift to escape reality.
Only for that AAA game to comstantly remind you of political nonsense going on in the wolrd.
JUST MAKE A DAMN VIDEO GAME. THATS ALL WE WANT. WE DONT WANT YOUR REAL WOLRD AGENDAS AND POLITICS AND A FANTASY WORLD.
ITS TIME FOR THE WORLD TO SHUT F UPNAND MOVE ON WITH LIFE.
Yeah okay, exclusive GoG user here. Never used Steam. And yeah, sometimes I check out reviews there.
But also, the big money wasn't in sales for the longest time, still isn't, it's in investors and stock markets, and as such games stopped being made "good" for the gamers a long, long time ago, instead relying on trend chasing and buzzword bingo to make the chairs happy. With the reviews now re-coupling that whole "game needs to be good" concept to profitability in a roundabout way, that's a good development. But lots of damage has already been done by now.
For as long as Steam allows gamers to voice their opinions ill keep buying all my games there.
@gordorfoorfo"Too much free speech" 😡 😡 😡 kick 'em out of the US markets entirely. If they don't want the priveleges of living here to apply to others, then they don't deserve to benefit from them themselves.
@powerofanime1Without Steam Games like Concord Would have Been A Success.. thank god for Steam, All mighty please protect gabe newell.
@inunixiaI've poked at the Epic Games Store, confirmed that it does NOT have customer reviews like Steam. Never went back.
@omganotherunValve not being beholden to shareholders is like a cheatcode. They can do pro-consumer moves and there is jack-shit public corpos can put up against that because their filthy greed literally won't let them.
@eddebrockI read reviews before watching a movie. I read reviews before buying a car. I read reviews before dating a chick.
I read reviews. Period.
If reviews are what kills you, you are not worth my time to begin with.
When Gabe dies, gaming will be ruined. Get as many physical copies as you can guys, the end is coming.
@jevisama"Oh no! The company that spent five times what was necessary on a bloated production process, purchased office space for their developers to sleep in and spammed my non-game/non-physical-book entertainment to annoy me into remembering their game... to develop a game that could have been done by a team a quarter the size, from their homes/garages and advertised lightly, gotten three times the amount of goodwill, had half as many bugs and seven times more originality, fun & flavour... is crying because their game sucks and people don't like it! Clearly the customers are at fault here."
EDIT: For what it's worth, I got about a third of the way into this video before deciding that I didn't want to see more. It feels like a very weird tone of voice / angle of conversation, for this channel. I'm still a subscriber and I'll definitely be back... but not for this video. I hope every person out there has a great day (obviously this doesn't include a lot of tech and/or megacorp CEOs, becasue they're clearly not people).
Rating are for the tourist. Gamers only wanna know the game bugged or not.
@wallet29108:16 even if im buying on console, i check reviews, both in the store and on steam.
@jamieinman450612:04 … [Checks other platform; Epic Game Store]
…Huh. You’re right. But worse than that, the review info happens to be below practically everything, including DLC/micro-transactions! 😮
Halo campaign devolved sucks because they force you through like nine different missions or something like that where you have to listen to this uppity ODST female Marine who says she's better than Spartans and that Spartans are all fancy armor and propaganda. That's honestly oh and then also you know like the putting a tag over the invisible enemies cuz you know why shouldn't you be able to see invisible enemies while they're invisible? That that would be like playing Baldur's Gate 3 and then casting greater invisibility on your character and then walking up to steal something and everybody just sees you stealing it anyway.
Sexist female Marine who can one shot Chief the most indestructible guy in the world. This dude literally fell from re-entry point of the atmosphere, caught fire and everything crashed. Creating a crater in the Earth where he landed, got up and brushed it off like it never happened yet. Some fucking California raised feminist propaganda pushing female ODST Marine can just shoot Chief one time through the layers of overshield advanced indestructible Spartan armor and kill Chief in one shot. That is why Halo combat devolved feminist wave 4 has been doing very poorly.
Nut up or Shut up?
Companies should shut up, we consumers have every right to criticize their products.
Truly I want somebody to go into this court cases with these people and sit down while they're there are no such thing as consumer rights yada yada yada this that and the other okay. Well then by that standard I am now a business. The fact that I am now a business. I sell a product. This product is a paper towel with a smiley face on it, there's no specific design to the smiley face it could be whatever you put in the requirements or the request and it'll be done. It's a smiley face so there's no such thing as a copyright on that so I don't have to worry about anybody trying to sue for that either way. So each paper towel with a smiley face on it cost $400. However, there's a stipulation in order to get the paper towel you want with a smiley face on it, you have to buy an entire roll of paper towels with smiley faces on each paper towel. Each paper towel cost $400. If one of these game developers refuses to buy that they have, then just implemented a consumer's rights thing now counter their potential counter. There's also a digital roll of paper towels with digital smiley face on each digital towel. In order to get a hold of the digital towel, you will have to pay $500 for each paper towel but here's the other thing right. They're going to try to argue well. They don't want to buy it. They don't get a choice. They have to buy it and they have to like and love it. They have to pay the person who is now come out with this new deal and this needs to be said in the court system in the actual room with the judge and all them present, the moment that these game developers and companies refuse to buy the product, the digital license to the digital paper towels with the digital smiley face and the physical product of the physical towel with the physical smiley faces on it. They have then just set the precedent that there is is a right to purchase these or not? The fact that they're demanding that we buy their slop games that they make demanding that we don't fight back against this digital thing and that we could take that away from them or they because they could take the games and stuff away from us. Proves my paper towel analogy thing.
If they refuse to buy both paper towel analogies both digital and physical. They have just proven that they don't want to buy something that they don't want, whether it's a digital license or a physical copy. As soon as they do that as soon as they say they would not buy it and they have to buy it right there in the courtroom. If they refuse to buy it right there then they don't get it. But the stipulation isn't just they refuse to buy it or they do buy it because if they do buy it it's not going to cost them that much. No, they have to buy enough copies of each one to distribute to every single person in the United States. If they refuse then they don't actually want everybody to own copies of what they're trying to sell either. Therefore, we will now have digital rights and consumer rights on digital products and licensing because that's what these people are trying to do. They want you to buy a physical up to a point until no longer and then digital licensing to a paper towel with a smiley face on it. That's basically ultimately what it is. Only the differences is rather than getting a smiley face you get a paper towel wrapped around a piece of shit.
Funny this gets brought up, I was playing my second play through Cyberpunk 2077/first time through Phantom Liberty, when I shut it down to get some sleep, just the other night. When before shutting Steam down is popped up saying I've played the game for a good bit and offered to let me write a review. It's only the second review I've ever written, and I'm sure Cyberpunk doesn't NEED another positive review by now, but honestly, with how much work they put into polishing it post-release, I do hope it helps them sell another copy or two.
I've 100% held off on buying a game I was super excited for due to steam reviews being anywhere south of mostly positive, with actual reading to find out why. I'll read 20-30 of them if its a game I'm really invested in just incase its getting bombed due to some political flack. Most of it i agree with anyways but sometimes it can be a bit of an overkill thing (i know people who love BG3, but also hate the character creator thing, similarly the bartended in Cyberpunk 2077 - last one catches flack on reviews sometimes). Unfortunately I was a HUGE Monster Hunter fan from PS2, it was the first game i could play online with my dad that wasn't SOCOM 2. Then it seemingly disappeared until World came around, which had connectivity issues but those got smoothed out. Obviously some time had passed but I got to play that with my wife instead. Wilds had me really excited, then the demo happened. "They'll fix it by release" i told myself. Glad I never pulled the trigger cause I'm still not sure my 1080ti could run it, and it looks worse than World did IMO.
Friendly reminder that Epic Games doesn't have an user review system. It just randomly asks you your opinion about the game (once!) and later on about details of the game (is it noob friendly? Diverse? Easy controls?). Most importantly, they show in a small bar at the top of the shop if people say it's good, but don't show anything about that if people say it's bad
@BelhenixIm an Xbox player. I get 99% of my games for free with game share. I still occasionally check steam reviews for games I can get for free. I'm a lot more willing to get these games since I don't have to pay, but steam reviews still impact my judgement. I decided to play a game on launch day for the first time in years with beasts of reincarnation, and I am very disappointed. I have optimized my settings for performance and still get lag spikes. For a game built around a parry system, it feels really unresponsive. I guess it's my fault for playing a game freak game on release.
@gamegrinder0126this is the digital future they wanted, they can't have their cake and eat it too, if they don't want user reviews and players' voices impacting their sales anymore then they'll have to kill online, aka the internet
we can't get with the times? neither can they apparently, if anything from the golden era can stay in the past it's paying for a magazine subscription just so journo Assa Pooshitta can be the only voice in the room
Helldiver 2 , I'm looking at you right now
@trunglythanh8707Yep review score has stopped me many times. Go to check the reviews and Nope save my money!
