Stop Cat Biting Fast: The 3-Step Method I Use for All My Cats
Video Overview & Insights
Here are the steps to STOP cats biting FAST! I believe the first skill for any cat owner to learn is the skill of guiding your cat's teeth and claws - to show what is acceptable or unacceptable to bite. These 3 steps, observation, desensitization + associations, and misdirection, are simple but incredibly effective tools for training your cats to stop biting!
When my cat is over stimulated he bites hard and punctures my skin and it draws blood. He also may attack me when I walk away

sometimes its just play
Here are some items I recommend:
Cat kicker catnip toys for misdirection:
Thank you for the info. I will use a small toy as well. I do redirect with a wand. I'm interested in clicker training so I am not sure about the hand feeding. But the petting while eating sounds good. My big thing is getting my 2 month old kitten to not jump on me and bite me unprovoked, while I'm just sitting somewhere away from him.

Matatabi sticks for misdirection:
My cat does the ambush bite. I’ll be folding clothes or doing dishes and out of nowhere he grabs my leg and bites! I tried to distract him, I tried to ignore him, but nothing works. It’s like he’s determined to bite and he gets a bit aggressive. It’s a problem, his bite hit a vain and I had to go on antibiotics! He’s an indoor/outdoor cat with lots of toys and attention.

Bitter spray for extra reinforcement:
Why does my cat want to bite me when I'm lying down on the floor?

@jacquelinesantelises4407My cat bites my feet even when I am laying down on my bed. I tell him not to do that, and I walk away.
@jacquelinesantelises4407there can be other reason for cat showing aggression when touched. A cat experiencing feline hyperesthesia syndrome can be very sensitive to touch, particularly along their back and near the tail. This condition, also known as "twitchy cat disease" or "rolling skin disease," causes a cat to react as if in pain when touched in certain areas. The reaction can range from skin rippling and twitching to biting, scratching, or even frantic running and vocalization.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Extreme Sensitivity:
Feline hyperesthesia is characterized by an increased sensitivity to touch, especially along the lower back.
Skin Twitching/Rippling:
A common symptom is the rippling or twitching of the skin, often accompanied by dilated pupils.
Behavioral Changes:
Affected cats may bite or scratch themselves, chase their tails, or exhibit frantic running and vocalization.
Possible Causes:
While the exact cause is unknown, it's believed to be a neurological or psychological issue, potentially triggered by stress, anxiety, or underlying health conditions.
Medical Assessment:
If you notice these signs in your cat, it's crucial to consult with a veterinarian for diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Do not feed cats from a community bowl or water bowl, they each need their own bowls. They are territorial and do not want conflict at feeding time.
@LindaBaldwin-iw1zdSince I got my male kitten I never played with him with my hands. He just started bitting me as soon as I would come home from work. As he gets older his little teeth and nails are starting to hurt. Please give me some advice on how to stop him from bitting me period !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@zenapinkney9245Thank you! Finally someone with actual advice beyond “don’t play with them using your hands”. DUH! I’m so tired of reading that same thing ad nauseam on every single video or article as if it’s rocket science. I’ve never played with a kitten using my hands but I’ve had biters so severe that the vet can’t even give injections or do basic exams. I appreciate that you actually gave new strategies.
@pennyloafer3358Thank you for your video, I'm going to try this.
@NinjagirllllWill apply this to my cat loki
@CatzyVibesDon’t pester them while they’re sleeping
@kafinn5302My Cat : my owner is An Irritant, she squeezes the stuffings out of me 🙄
@pilarq7886Thank you for sharing. 😺
New kitty parent here and I'm learning 😊 she's so sweet, 2 months old… I know she's playing and at times become overstimulated. But I'm not mad cause we are learning from each other and it's all fun 😻
I just got a kitten. She learned to bite hands from previous owners. Its very frustrating trying to train her to not bite.
@matthewa441Yes my cat attacks while I sleep, what can I do about that
@bellard74dbI have a cat now age 1yr old ..he bites my hand my fingers what I do is ..I will say huhuhu..ouch ouch and let him see that I feel hurt by his bite then he will stop biting my hands meaning he understand that biting me is not acceptable and biting me is hurting ..I think it helps him also bring out his wants for a play toy..and I don't see it's as aggression towards me as his fur parents but I think he does it because he wants to play with me..and if I stopped him then he stopped..although I am cautious that maybe his bite will be real and deep ..but noh..it's just a play bite...
@EstrellitaLibrado-t8nHello
@RickallsBushcraft01My cat bites me sometime for what I think is no reason. Then I thought, Maybe it's her way of telling me something hurts her. Since she is 11 years old, I'm thinking she could have arthritis. I started playing frequency music for her and it seems to pacify her and calm her down. You can find healing frequency music on you tube. It's free. Me and my cat love to listen to this therapeutic music. If you read the comments at the bottom of the video screen you'll discover which ones get the best reviews. I have found some work better than others. You'll know by your kitty's reaction which one works for him or her. Best of luck to you and your fur baby
@gracecovelli7323If I still have a cat first thing I would stop a cat from biting because of the infection in the mouth
@PaulHayman-tq5kbI hate to say this but they need a negative response to their behavior. In nature a sibling or adult cat will swat n hiss. Just a simple tap on their nose is all it takes. Every bite, before it is acceptable behavior. Bite = tap on the nose. Not hard, not painful. Just annoying..
@livinb450I found a kiten outside and adopted him. He was only about 4 weeks. Hes a few months old now and he has a huge habit of play biting. I just loudly say " NO BITE" and he stops or he will hesitate and then not do anythin and lose intrest .
He loves to come out of nowhere and POUNCE and bite my arm if im preoccupied. My reflexes have gotten pretty good. Hes gotten better at knowing when not to bite my hands and arms but when it comes to my ankles he doesnt give a crap and is ready to charge and bite! I dont know what to do about that part.🫤
If I'm sitting at my computer, she is laying on the desk.
She will stand up and slowly walk across my lap, then start to lick then bite my arm, without me even touching her.
She also bites her tail then hisses.
Why do people disturb sleeping pets? Wait till they wake up on their own... We got our Toyger at 1yr from the shelter and after 2mo working with him he still love bites but never uses his claws. From the 2nd week with Tiger I sat down and looked him in the eyes and laid down the law... yah right. But you have to back it up with actions, food/toys and holding'em... re-iterating not doing the unwanted behavior... Not hitting, spraying or pitching'em across the room. Hope this helps as well...
@msgajhimelret9496i have a question , would you share where you got the cat window beds or some cat toys you suggest ?
@dangoalpha8818How did you learn to bite humans? You act cuddles with that toy as if you just worry about the ware and tear of your underwear. Not a care in the world just water & food.
@lisalasoya2898Excellent professional advice
@gabrielM1111Is it possible to start this strategy to a full grown cat?
@shagara.9138Thank you
@p2mthedirectorWhere did you get that window bed with suction cups? Cool!
@DC-0608My cat bites me when I'm going up or down the stairs.and scratches the wall paper
@bellaboo208I put lavendar lotion on my hands and feet and she does not like that smell so she for now has stopped biting my fingers and toes.
@1212salseraMy cat bite when it is hungry and i ignore her calls for long. If i wake up late and its the food time it bites my leg to wake me up. My reaction is to push it away with that foot. That gets an angry retaliation bite. One day 8 might kick her hard if it goes on.
@lawrencefernando6610My rescue cat was biting me. He was biting my wrists something awful. I asked some rescue staff what to do. They said that he was seeing me as a sibling or love. I decided to work with this because he was new and wanted to play but the biting was depressing. I thought😊....well if he loves me, then he does not want to hurt me so I would say owww in a hurt way when he would bite me. He immediately stopped the biting and in record time.
@charmainekirk1512Your voice is damn good, be a narrator !!, and ty :D
@HOPE-wg5pbI am busy for two weeks now and see i slight difference but my weustion is how long will it take?
@JaLauwMan35Wait I saw your cat litter is pellets, are those wooden pellets? I was wondering if that is something you would recommend for me to switch out for a long haired cat who kicks the sand everywhere...
@akane-chaanMy 7.5 month old kittens slink in under my comforter and attack my toes. I don’t have to be moving. As soon as I get into bed the little boogers start the “blanket shark” attacks.
@rebeccajewell2705Very helpful
@dianabykh3388Your advice was very encouraging and showing us HOW we need to interact with our feline friends was great to see. Thank you. Kathy from Sydney Australia
@kathylarsson8388Love this video and not surprised that Ash would be the most laid back - he looks like he has a russian blue in him which is the most decadently relaxed breed I’ve ever met ☺️
