Stop Overpaying for Netflix

Video Overview & Insights

I'm your host, Dizmodo.

Netflix is like the Audi attempt at charging people to pay for heated seats. The prices keep getting higher, but the amount of content seems to be the same or lacking in quality. $20 standard should not be basic 1080p, it should be 2K. People need to speak up more and complain, because large companies such as Netflix know the majority will bend over for them. If they still had the DVD plan, I'd still be on it versus streaming. It's always the SAME SAME SAME content no matter what streaming service you use. I'll be searching online for a DVD rental service; I'm so exhausted from shit streaming selections!

— @Zakatak360

Netflix Premium and Standard are awesome services for specific viewers, but you may be overpaying.

There are specific benefits to Netflix plans including streaming quality, ad free viewing, and downloading for offline viewing. These benefits are great, but not all Netflix users need them.

I've been using standard before until they made the 4k+HDR to be on Premium only, I was used to the "4K" option. And then our country decided to put tax on Digital services and now there's the price increase. I'll be stepping down to standard and if it's not as good then I might cancel my subscription before new years and stick to youtube

Let's talk about how to avoid paying more than you have to. Overpayment comes down to a few different things, and I discuss them here in this video.

Comment below how long you've been subscribed and which rate you're paying!

95% of there movies are 20 & 30 year's old. Full of episodes. Full of second rate England movies. Don't no how they still in business

I've been getting this pop up the last few months that say "Assign you new member" I always had 5 slots and never used the 5th slot. It was really annoying. After watching your video a light bulb came and and sure enough some how when they changed my bill, I've been paying for the extra member for awhile now. What a bunch of freaking scammers. Netflix was awesome when it came out, now... Not so much. I am definitely canceling this service. Thanks for the video.

These crooks charge me 8 bucks a month, and I can't even watch 1 episode of anime (like, once a month) without getting hit with a 60 second ad while eatting dinner. It's so infuriating I always turn it off, and cancel for a month. But now I'd downloaded all my data and opted out of all their data collection. I'm gonna just fk off soon lol.

It is what it is. I just wanted to watch some series to the end. I started watching them in 2023 and needed my closure 😂

Netflix over charges with more pushed woke and dei garbage junk not all want nor interested in. They push so much woke dei ideology in many so called "New Shows" they additionally mess with ol' Anime and ruin it, and haven't offered anything I can get at other subscriptions elsewhere and there is lagging. If all they can do is wastemoney on DEI and Woke Ideology and Propaganda many don't want to see or hear in shows, and not give a new fresh selection of mivies and revamp new videos and shows along with Anime and not change the voice overs, not push political woke and dei garbage in series and shows. I expect more and not what they push in many of their series down our throats aka woke ideology and dei garbage. Don't want to see the Leftist stuff in any shows, and if majority shows push it and they keep increasing the payment its not worth it like Disney Netflix went woke they should go broke.

It's not the number of devies, it's actually the number of simultaneous streams playing at one time.

im just searching for what data speed is necessary for streaming 4k. cant seem to find it.

I use standard + 1 member and it's great. I mean I watch a lot of Netflix and I always find something I can bear to watch lol. helps that I like Korean shows I guess

I was free riding with a friend for quite a while. Lost that several months ago. I kind of gotten over being mad and thought I'd try out the Netflix premium. Try the new airbender it's 4K. The picture was really fantastic. The sound is epic. I have a home theater Dolby Atmos, 7.1. and it's just so transparent it just fills the room of sound. It's totally awesome. So for me it's worth it. I don't watch a lot of the popular movies. I'm a little more esoteric. I like to binge and after a couple of months if I find I've gone through everything I want to watch on Netflix. I'll just cancel it and move on to something else. My two cents

We should all go on strike, shut down our Netflix accounts, everyone cancel at once, let's see then how fast they will drop prices

I canceled Netflix after being unable to play anything in 4k, I have a 4k TV and was on the top tier. The broadband speed was no problem I'm on 1 GB with Virgin Media. I use a 4k Firestick cube but still couldn't get Netflix to play 4k. Yet I can play 4k content on YouTube with no problem .....

@Keepingthefaith72

Fuck Netflix, they were making bank before and not paying their shows' actors well, these price hikes are just going to make the top richer. Pirates all the way.

@LoboMendez1
@

Wow, there sneaky having limited stuff and have adverts for the 4.99 one, the standard one is 10.99 which is way overpriced for me. I'm searching for a way to get the cheap one, but to block or skip the adverts, as I hate adverts with a passion. Thanks for sharing.

Netflix is trying to become an expensive cable company. They aren’t getting my money. If everyone keeps signing up they are going to keep raising and taking away features. Once they see success the rest of the streaming services are going to follow suit and streaming is going to be the price of cable.

@ginafraicola513

Who even really has time to watch movies? Also, in the US people pay for so many things they don't even use and live paycheck to paycheck not to mention deliver a house for 30 years and can not even pass it down to your child since he still needs to pay taxes to get it and will still be paying taxes on it after it is laid off. Do we even own anything in this free world?

@Positivemindset723

Definitely going to change my plan for Netflix to the standard. I’ve been using premium for years and it keeps on going up. It’s at $22.99. I definitely need to save some money. Thank you for sharing your about your savings and about the different plans of Netflix😊

@rosescasitllo4074
@

I may be understanding it wrongly, but if I use standart subscription, and don't add extra members do I still get charged for it? (for the extra member slot)

@WolfiHU
@

Who needs netflix if you can watch it for free on pirated sites

@NeykongTV
@

Another way for netflix to squeeze money out of consumers. So the standard with ad is $7.99 with 1040p but the standard without ads is $9.99 with 720p. Wow

@dranmarks
@

Netflix just charge 24.98. That's 300 a year now. December is my last month. I will be canceling before the new year. I will save 300 next year. I am tired of the price hikes.

That US pricing is interesting. I'm from Canada and the ad tier and ad free tiers are a dollar difference, but on opposite ends. Instead of $15.49 and $19.99 for ad free, it's $16.49 and $20.99 here. Which one might think is understandable due to the US vs Canadian dollar conversion. However the ad tier standard instead of $6.99, it's $5.99 here in Canada.

I'm not surprised though. I just read an article that since Pluto TV launched in Canada just a year ago on Dec 1 2022, it was easily one of the company's biggest international success stories to date as Canada has garnered the company over a billion total minutes viewed monthly. Something tells me that's a higher ratio per population than what they're getting in the US. So it would make sense Netflix would give Canada a discount on the ad tier since we're probably more patience, don't mind watching ads as much as people in the US, and bring those streaming networks that glorious ad money.

I think you were too nice to 720p, it looks horrendous. At 720p I'd definitely rather pirate 1080p streams online. 1080p is fine and you get used to it, but you definitely see a difference. It always depends on the camera quality of the movies as well, some stuff looks absolutely insane in 4K Dolby Vision. The good thing about Netflix is you can change up and down. I'd say maybe stick to standard for your usual weeks where you work a lot or are not watching a ton because of summer time, but then spend 5 dollars in winter months to get excellent quality for some blockbusters or shows you had on your watch list.

@drchtct
@

Not with 4k but hdr is good as well for 1080p

@ashkhandoker1677
@

I think the change I plan to make is to dump Netflix for a good while and give some other services a shot. Thinking maybe Paramount+ Since they absorbed all the Showtime stuff it looks like, in addition to a bunch of stuff I want to see of theirs anyhow.

@poleritude6222

Netflix got rid of the $9.99 basic plan.
