I had an idea to use kitty litter instead of dirt because kitty litter is clay and it absorbs moisture so I don't think a potato would even think of trying to grow in it, it would be too dry.
what do you think of this idea?

My dad use to put lime over them to keep them. It helps to preserve them through winter.

Hi, wow, I just had a question about storing potatoes today and here you are! I was wondering about the other side of the season though, I have just bought some "seed" potatoes from a seed company to grow my own, but I don't have room to plant them all at once. I was wondering if storing them in a cool dark place in paper bags would work to save some to plant later. Southern hemisphere here, my season is just starting!

a dirty potato... is a happy potato : )
@BRIGGS2710So where can you store them if you don't have a root cellar or basement?
@rosalindhbMine have been planted for quite a while. They are nice and green but no blooms yet. I dont remember when i started them. How long doe it usually take before harvest?
@tammymanuel9158Iβve stored potatoes for 6-8 months and they are still great
@stephanestpierreIf you donβt get a frost can you leave them in ground and dig them up as needed? I live in CA. No frost and no rain.
@jam_is_jamminThanks, always nice to hear from you! But...down here in S FL, there is no cool storage except the fridge! Guess illjust grow & eat in the winter!
@patriciatinkey2677The fridge is cool, dark and dry??? And, what is curing them?
@technoforever888How do you recommend curing them? Is we don't have a greenhouse and living in a northern state?
@mariethomas4703The slugs were prolific, despite picking literally 2500 this spring.
They killed the plans, and, what I've dug up so far are filled with small cream colour worms.... sooo bummed.
Right on time again even in different continents! Thank you for sharing
