Handwriting has so many benefits for the brain...we are now seeing the decline of our children from the use of screens...this has added to the drop in literacy...and a rise in the illegibility of their writing...bring back the old school.

@nickp5093Same at my sons high school. Brisbane, QLD. Handwritten class notes, hand written exams. Students still have laptops to access teacher notes and lesson plans for pre-class preparation and post class activities to be referenced within a time critical manner. Text books are still currently all online. Not sure if that will change back to physical texts.

Many of us have been seeing this for years, but ineffectual, blind and stupid governments have pushed ahead with tech in the classrooms, even though our kids are having poorer educational outcomes. I could read, write and do basic mathematics before I went to primary school (at 4) because my older sister taught me what she learned when she got home from school. She taught me the way her teachers taught her. With books, pencils and paper. Plus, getting rid of tech reduces the now outrageous cost of education. I wish the Australian government would grow a brain and see what is blindingly obvious to the rest of us.
@Elsa-u9q4fPlease bring this in as an option to Australian schools. I'm a parent who really wants this for my kids. Teaching ipads is not preparing kids for anything as ipads are designed to be used without any training at all.

I am not surprised that some at least are beginning to realise the importance of body memory in learning - that forming letters using our own hands is an invaluable aid to understanding their relationships in more complex structures. Shape and form have nothing like the same tactile properties when simply observed on a screen. Yes to reading and writing, and let us not overlook the ‘rithmetic!
