In hindsight the tactics of Jumbo Visma were very bad here. Making Van Aert do that pulling when all he achieved was to put TP in a better position to attack Jonas was senseless. All they had to do as to make sure Jonas stuck with TP and I think that could easily have been achieved. In that case Jonas would have lost little or no time on this stage.

Pog just saved the rest of the Tour. I think it's going to be an epic battle between two great riders. I'm excited to see how this will play out.

It was all about that Jonas pulled up the whole mountain and Pogi sat in the wheel and didnt do anything. It was all down to tactics after all

I watched both stages live and stage 5 it looked to me as if Pog went too far into the red trying to hold Jonas, no top riders usually loose 50 seconds in 800m. Then stage 6 TJV had a plan based on Pog not being 100% and they went for it. They were over confident and did not adapt IMHO. Once Kelderman was on the front and they dropped everyone else, they did not ease off when they saw Pog easily keeping up. They should have eased a bit and left Kelderman tempo to the top and keep Kuss for last climb. That would have let WVA ease off. But Kelderman cooked himself then Kuss did also then Jonas attacked but Pog followed easily. Again they did not adapt and on last climb once WVA was cooked Jonas jumped, again Pog followed. Why on earth did Jonas still carry on. He was over confident and IMHO showed lack of experience as he did big effort on both climbs then he looked like death at the finish. All commentators saying Pog tired his team out but stage 6 the entire TJV team looked fxxked.

Even with Wout and Sep it's difficult to beat the tussle haired assassin...

Jumbo Visma rode the stage assuming Pogačar was still weakened by the day's before stage but he was not.
I feel like as a rule of thumb if you cannot drop your opponent after 3 hard minutes of attack you should ease up, Vingegaard kept the intensity high for almost 10 minutes, it made it look like was him 1 minute behind in GC

Can someone explain to me why Wout lead the group before the first climb ? Wouldn’t it been better for him get into someone draft for parts of it and only lead the climb to the top, so he uses less energy ?

I doubt Vingegaard was SHOCKED and pogo's move wasn't HUGE, he only got 20ish seconds. Stop with the melodramatic nonsense

Back to a 2 horse race. There needs to be more competition. This is going to be another boring TDF. Jai Hindley could have made this interesting. Pogacar attack was so suspicious.

jumbo was a bit cocky today. They felt they needed to drown Pog after he showed weakness yesterday. But they forgot it’s still fine margins. Against Pog you can’t attack 4 times while he hangs in your wheel and expect to drop him like an amateur.
They got away with it today. Let’s see how this plays out.

Honestly I think Jumbo Visma forgot who Pog is (Jonas fan myself btw). I understand their tactic, they had to try and see if the weakness shown by Pog the day before was more then just 1 bad day, but they should have gone much harder on the big T to test that theory and I really think Jonas forgot that Pog smokes him in most races, especially on the shallower climbs, so he should have reigned in the fireworks after he failed to lose Pog on the big T. Paris is still a long way off and he should keep some power in his legs and wait for longer steeper climbs, that finish up.

One thing i dont understand in cycling. Wout van Aert is such a machine, wouldnt he win every race if the team would work for him instead of Vingegaard?

They are both exceptional riders first and foremost. My opinion is the Jumbo has the better team and better team tactics. Pogi won the stage cause it’s now or go home. He won on pure confidence in his abilities. He played Jonas until it was time to attack. We now have a race.

I wish the tour consisted only of 3 weeks of climbing. No boring transition or sprint stages plz.

What an amazing start to the tour. I was thinking back to your route reaction pods - remembering how excited you and Benji were about the Giro route and how unenthused you were about the TDF route. Then we've had just an incredible first week of GC battles (and other excitement) in the tour, and the Giro...well, we all know how that turned out. (I have to be careful not to let the memory of the final TT make me forget how forgettable most of the rest of the Giro was.) Not a knock on your route analysis, just a good reminder that the parcours is only one variable...
