Texas Storms Return Today: 75+ MPH Wind Risk

Thunderstorms return to Texas today, and a few may become rowdy this afternoon and evening.

Scattered severe thunderstorms are possible across the northern half of Texas this afternoon and evening, including:

• Southern Texas Panhandle

• West Texas

• Permian Basin

• Northwest Texas

• Big Country

• Concho Valley

• Texoma

• North Texas

• Parts of Central Texas

• East Texas

• A sliver of the ArkLaTex

Storms may begin developing around 2 to 3 PM and continue through the mid-evening hours. The strongest storms will move southeast and may produce:

• Damaging wind gusts over 75 MPH

• Quarter to golf ball size hail

• Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning

• Localized heavy rain

• Localized flash flooding

North Texas, Northeast Texas, and East Texas will also need to watch for localized flooding where heavier storms slow down or repeat over the same areas.

This is not a storm day for every single Texan, but where storms develop, they may become strong quickly. Some storms may also produce gusty winds well ahead of the rain, which can be a problem for folks on lakes, at parks, or at outdoor events.
