Took me a while to appreciate that every run doesn’t need to be fast, although I still struggle with glancing at my Garmin for a pace check often 😂

My partner says I thrive both in speed AND endurance. I would switch it up in the middle of a session sometimes. What would you call this type of running?

Thanks for this Ben! I'm brand new to running but made almost every mistake you mentioned when I began cycling and likely would have again as I begin my running journey. I have a question about shoes, I recently ordered a paid of Adidas Evo SL Exos. Haven't received them yet but did as much research as I could and am hopeful they will help. The shoes I'm currently using are not meant for running and horrible for my feet and I'm sure eventually my knees if I kept using them. I find the first 10 minutes on the treadmill awful, I just hate them. I began running longer and found the next 50 minutes are pure joy, my body loves the run. I haven't ever quit after an hour because I'm fatigued or my muscles are tired, it is entirely foot pain from poor shoes. I want to know what the best shoe would be for running at the gym and weight training in addition to the Exos which will be my outdoor running shoes. Is another pair of Exo's a good idea? My gym has a very strict no outdoor shoes policy and I want a pair that with be great with the treadmill, climber, weight machines and pushing the sled. I'm hoping to do my first half marathon in September and have a good fitness base from weight training and cycling but have a long way to go and am all about doing no damage along the way. Any shoe guidance would be greatly appreciated. There is nothing worse than missing part of an all too short summer to injury.

How long does shin splints typically last for? Feel as though I had them for most my London marathon prep, after a month off I’m back training, they seem to be gone but nervous to get them back.

@ankurmeghwal878great video
@rafaytariq6530I started off too fast. I hadn't ran in 8yrs and then all of the sudden I just decided to do 1mi sprints and would come out injured. I didn't even know that's what an injury was. I thought an injury was like a broken leg or something lol I always thought shin splints were a part of the game. Luckily, though, I rest until my legs are completely healed. I did an easy 5k the other day with a 10min pace and came out with a tight knee. Well, according to Google, it's the lateral collateral ligament. So I'm on my second rest day and I'm basically healed. So I'll go for my run tomorrow, prbbly. But either ways, I love this
@YoungJ78I hit 9 out of 10 of those in my first two months of running. Ignored rest days, obsessed about pace, and ran through a painful a knee bursitis only to then be sidelined with a calcaneal stress fracture which ended my running career (temporarily). When I’m cleared to run again, I’m going to focus on long slow runs and weight training. In the meantime, back to cycling.
Edit. Part of running so much on day 1 was coming from a background in cycling ~12-15 hours/week. The aerobic engine was there, but the joints and bones were not ready for it.
What if conversational pace is while I am walking? And as soon as I get into a light jog I am beyond talking. I am just starting out to try and get fit. It’s been many years being too sedentary.
@BennSumm1Solid breakdown bro, this is pretty much the exact trap most beginners fall into. I used to think more intensity = faster progress, but it just led to burnout and inconsistent weeks. Once I slowed down and focused on building an actual base, everything improved. Rovex Method explains this kind of progression mindset really clearly too, especially the part about pacing and not treating every run like a test.
@Michael-m9c5jI tried a bit slower pace just now... it's so weird honestly... also I am definitly guilty of skipping warm up 😅
@therealsirdj5934You left out learning proper form
.... Toes pointed forward, heel to toe...
Who the hell makes 30 miles a week and still needs this video?
Hell, even 10. 10 miles is 15 kilometers, that's running 5k every other day or 2k daily.
Don’t worry about right or wrong just get involved
@Krishna_PokharelPrefer to go to nearby decathlon for running gears
@Nrylw-w6tUggg, strength training…. So difficult when your tri training.
@Civera89i love assics
@joelmole1988I am convinced the most economical investment anyone can make in their health is a good pair of running and or walking shoes. The return on investment is off the charts.
@2nd_a_dad4791I got lucky in choosing the right shoe for my feet on the first try without knowing how each shoe is different and for what. I got the Hokas Bondi 9, and they pretty much helped me become consistent and confident. I started at a 10’50” pace for 3 miles, and now a year later I’m able to do a 8’50’’ for 6 miles. They helped me understand how I run and what I need in future pairs of running shoes
@XROD22I'm 37, 5'3". I haven't ran since i got injured during parkour many years ago (like 2009 or so). My coworkers all started getting into doing runs and now were all doing a local 10k called the Wharf to Wharf. This vid definitely gives me some insight. My friends are much faster, but I'm trying to get back to at least a 9 minute mile. Thats my long term goal lol
@tagginondawal3961Nr 1 for me is - too fast/long, too soon. Start with walk/run training and slowly progress. Focus on 5-10k distances in early seasons and then half/full marathon only after good few training seasons. If you are fit you can do it in your second season, no need to wait 5-10 years(but that would be beneficial in overall health).
@rapssssAmazing video, I've started running and recently completed my first 10k ever. At 1hr20min and my legs are killing me. The Bob and Brad recommendation helps alot❤❤❤
@BooTleGcUchiCan you say what shoes sam ruthe

Planks are a scam.
Sorry. Great video, planks just trigger me!
As a U13 competitive long distance runner who has been doing it for 2 years I was hesitant playing the video as I thought it was a waste of time as I know a lot but I was wrong these tips were genuinely helpful thank you !
@Coco-s3s3tTook up running during covid using a crappy pair of used runners belonging to my uncle. Ran most days that summer and now have quite bad left knee pain (wear a brace these days). Oh I wish I could have told my past self the damage I doing! 😔
@robertboyce697Started running today!
@dasunpereramusicI’ve just started running to try help with my low self esteem, approaching 40, aiming for 3 runs a week currently at 4.6k on my second run but definitely need research on how to make sure I carry it on
@kieharper1986the fact that it seems to be implied everywhere in apps and online that i want to do races is such a surprise to me! i am not gonna be a professional runner, why would i be interested in races? i want to run for fitness, i want running to be a cardio option for me, because it never was. i want to run around a lake outside of the city if i want to. in a casual and effortless way. that is what i see runners do. it never even occurred to me that they also do races.
@robopechaHere because I indeed did too much too soon 😂
@ryanevans2655I am new to running... i want to keep it enjoyable... i run only a total of 3km every other day... I am at the point where i am just building the discipline... after a month or two i'll try to think if I'll increase the distance.
@oneminute_legendtstvYou look like a fit chuff
@AtthewheelpodcastGood pointers!
@williambreeze2659Went for a run today . Ran 5 Km and could have easily done more but had to stop as I had to start work in a bit. Running felt fine.
Couple of hours later my left ankle started feeling funky. And it's night time here and it hurts to walk. I messed it up for sure. Watched this video with an ice pack on my ankle. I guess I should have stopped at 3 Km. Also was wearing my New Balance sneakers today.
Lessons learned. There goes my 2 weeks of running I guess.
I've watched this video about 5 times over the last 6 months, I've taken 7 minutes off my 5k time and been injury free for the last 5 months. I'm starting the 10k training now for a NYE race I'm aiming for 50 minutes at 10k. Great video.
@LONKALUKSVI don't know, everyone always talks about doing too much too soon, but nobody really ever talks about how to actually start? Like I started trying to run, I'm a bit overweight and just light jogging for a couple of minutes and I can no longer have a conversation, all I can do is focus on breathing lmao.
@DimSnowBunnyI'm 14 and have been running for a year now. I can confirm running slower makes you faster. In the beginning I ran at about 5:00/km, and my speed never increased. After I started adding slower runs in my weeks, my speed really increased, I now run 3km at about 4:10/km. (about 6:42 minutes per mile)
