LOLZ - the whole reason behind the Texas Revolution (the Alamo debacle, etc.) was the settlers' desire to preserve the institution of slavery. Mexico had abolished slavery in 1829, which conflicted with the economic interests of many Anglo-American settlers in Texas who relied on enslaved people for their plantations and other industries. Yeah, so f*ck that!

I have a soft spot for this movie but I'm gonna go ahead and point out that the guys inside the fort were fighting for the right to own slaves. That's the main reason they were trying to secede from Mexico.

best Alamo movie ever!

@Ragnar6000

I liked this movie when I was younger. Then I learned about the actual history and the reasons for the Texan rebellion. This movie clothes it in the noble colors of a "republic" breaking away from a brutal dictator, and it seems clear Santa Anna was a tyrant.

But what it doesn't tell you is that the "Texicans" wanted to separate from Mexico because that country had outlawed slavery seven years earlier, and the rebels in Texas didn't want to give up their 'property' (and, years later, was the seventh state to secede from the union for that very reason). Not so noble, after all.

Oof! And in the scene Lawrence Harvey had his foot crushed when he fired the cannon and it rolled back landing on his foot

This is one of my favorite scenes in this movie. The actors playing the Mexican soldiers are just magnificent horsemen, dashing along at a full gallop and yet keeping their nbacks ramrod straight. Obviously, those were not just ordinary actors. In a real situation, they would have made fine cavalry.
