My Apple TV seems to make movement look jerky. Any ideas what causes that?

Switching dynamic mode is fine if you stay on one channel but is intolerable delays if you are channel surfing.

My apple tv was looping from clear picture to black screen to gray snow. Something to do with the CSE setting which does a hand shake to change content settings. I was told to turn this off on my LG TV and the problem continued. I was then told to turn off match frame rate and dynamic range on the apple and still nothing. Understand the tv after switching from one APP to another started showing clear picture, blink black screen, blink gray snow and back to clear picture. i then disconnected my apple tv from my soundbar directly into my tv and the issue stopped, WTF.

Hello!
I just bought the apple tv 4k. It is connected to an older Sony LED 48" display from 2012-2013.
I do not see a Chroma option in mine but the rest I have set as per your advice, i.e. 1080p SDR(as it is an older 1080p panel) followed by HDMI to YCbCr and finally Match Range and Frame rate.
I would like to know if I should fruther Calibrate with the front facing camera to TV method or leave it as is. I mainly use the Apple TV for YouTube, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.

@phileagle8432This is an excellent video and I'm confident I'll finally get an accurate answer to my question from you so please reply. My TV supports HDR but it's brightness levels aren't enough. Will turning OFF match dynamic range with 4ksdr ensure all HDR content comes in as 4k SDR?
@roger22fedI don't understand why setting 4K HDR and match dynamic range does not achieve exactly the same thing. The menus look washed out, but surely that's a bug in Apple's UI and they should fix it. The menus would then show in HDR, and when you play content it will match dynamic range.

I have a 1st Gen Apple TV 4K and an LG 4k TV all going through a Sony 4k compatible receiver. If I have HDR enabled on the ATV, I see HDR along with BT2020 listed in the picture info box on the TV. But using the changes suggested in the video those two are not listed. Is this okay? Man, life would be simpler if I didn’t obsess over PQ😂😂😂

@pazelloxuThanks for the upload. I am a streaming app tester on tvOS and the device wants to automatically set to Dolby Vision output. Of course, doing this introduced all kinds of artifacts. Glad to know why now and how to set up the device so that I won't see them.
@yesthatjake5601Hdmi Output setting should be RGB (high), any other setting introduces black crush and a green tint.
Framerate matching does not need to be enabled either on modern tvs that support 3:2 pulldown. Turning it on just introduces even more annoying black screen format changes, in this case including 24hz sdr content.
Is this only for projector ????
@arealgem9404this might sound like a dumb question but, what happens if I want the 4K + BT2020/DCI-P3 colour space but without the 'brightness/luminosity' HDR? Will turning off match content and keeping it on 4K SDR give me better resolution and colours than 1080p REC709 without the annoyance of eye-searingly-bright/ or loss of detail in super dark scenes? I'm tired of playing around with the brightness/contrast/oled light settings on my LG CX when watching HDR content, so considering buying an apple TV 4K if it lets me force content to 4K SDR. I just want oldschool 1080p bluray quality but at 4K, without all this HDR nonsense!
@drvelNice topic, i got samsungq90 if i set my apple tv on match content watching youtube everytime i change different show contents screen went black for a moment,my setting is what u recommended SDR 444, but aside fromyou tube other streaming apps like netflix is ok.

@zulu0123Hopefully you guys will see this after so long. Just recently upgraded to a 4K projector. When I use the Apple TV match frame rate and dynamic range settings, there’s an annoying lag while the projector switches or searches for input. Is it the case that you have to live with that in order to use these settings or is there another option?
@Rollingstone2009Switching to 4K SDR helped with my IPTV app (River TV in Canada). However, the handshake with the streaming apps is excessive. Netflix takes about 20 seconds. Apple TV+ just spins, and never actually starts.
@mtlreinerHello from the Future (Jan 2023) - Would you say these settings still hold true today with the new Apple TV 4K 2022 ? I just went to check my settings for my ATV 4K 2022 and I noticed an additional new menu for HDR10+ and when I selected the first menu dropdown at the top for Video, there is now a host of options to choose HDR10+ as a default option along with 4K and 50Hz or 60Hz... there are LOTS of choices in my list. I have a 2018 Samsung Q9 75" display and use the ATV 4K 2022 as the sole source for streaming and content. Thanks for such a great video. I have changed the Chroma from 4:2:0 to 4:2:2 which is the highest setting offered in the menu and the ATV seemed happy with that.
@timothyjohns3561Where were these guys 5 years ago!? I’ve been using my Apple TV with hdr on for five years and I thought that this thing was shit! Colors were dimmed, black was grey etc… and after I switched it to sdr boy oh boy… thanx mates! Worth mentioning my tv did not natively support hdr

@dten77Thanks for this. Any thoughts on why I have to reattach my home pod mini speakers every day after turning off my apple tv? It seems to default to tv speakers. This is a pain.
@anomalous9448I set my Apple tv 3rd Generation(2022) to 4k sdr 60 but can't get any DV Amazon Prime movies to play in DV. But the same movies played on my LG qned85 using their smart apps will recognize Amazon Prime DV movies and play in DV. So.....is there a trick I'm missing?

@charlesdavis545Hi guys, not sure if your monitorng comments on this video now 3yrs old. There's been a few changes to the atv box. The enable HDR no longer has the expand out option and when I run your recommended settings (specifically mayhc frame rate) I can't get HDR playback... I'm using the hdfury arcana so I get the same readings you do when content plays. If internet match frame rate off, I get hdr playback??? Cheers 👍
@jb7753I tried this in 2022, and something has changed. Movies look different when the TV is set to SDR vs HDR even with all the matching turned on. Perhaps Apple updated it. Running 16.0
