I been traveling 25 years overseas. Base Denver. Traveling full time not the way to go

I only stay at hotels. I currently have $101,000 a year federal pension. I budget $8,000 for Bangkok 30 days three times a year. Philippines no more or Brazil though went Brazil over 25 times. Euro expensive. Bangkok best best shopping malls in world. Not boring like other cities to visit. General rule 4 days enough a city. Staying a month like you do too much. Not necessary. My expenses at home in Denver is $4,500 leaving $45,000 left to travel overseas. I freeze car insurance when traveling overseas. Gas up only three times a year. Breakfast buffets at most Bangkok hotels. Summer months Denver great. Not hot and humid. Asia summer months humid and hot.

Excellent good job. I have traveled over 80 countries and over 220 days on cruises. My home base is Denver. I 75 now traveled for 25 years retired 17 years. I solo make. It pays to be in great shape traveling.

Another great video! We’re currently in Norway for 6 weeks because we found an incredible AirBnB deal and inexpensive flights! So, even the more expensive countries you mentioned can still be done on a budget with an accommodation and flight deal.

When we retire, we have decided to do slow travel because I have a disability which prevents me from traveling full-time. We are still very excited to travel more!

Hi Guys. Just found your channel, YouTube was probably listening to my conversation with my wife about what a slow-travel retirement would look like once the kids graduate from college. You cover expenses, cards, travel accessories etc. It is great, but what does the actual tear down and setup of the slow travel lifestyle look like? Do you have a single suitcase between you? A backpack each? A shipping container that follows around behind you from country to country like a puppy dog? What does the first and last week in each location look like compared to the steady state?

This is so helpful, thank you! I think the car culture in the U.S. adds huge expenses. Our son lives in urban Northern Virginia and doesn't have a car--the expense itself, plus insurance, plus gas, plus monthly parking in his apartment building, plus maintenance, it's a lot. (But when he wants to go somewhere that's not metro-accessible, he takes Uber/Lyft, goes with friends, or comes up to Maryland and borrows our car--less than monthly, so he doesn't have to be on our insurance. Short-term car rentals are an occasional option too.) But in most places in the U.S., it's very inconvenient to live car-free. And traveling the country to see national parks, hahahaha try doing that with trains and buses, whereas you can go anywhere that way in Italy or Mexico for example. When my husband and I travel slowly-ish, we don't rent a car, it's only traveling (faster travel with specific agendas but changeable timing) with our adult kids that we ever do, and then each time I think about how we should switch systems there too.

You can very comfortably live in Malaysia for about 1/3 of the price in the US.

I know the biggest cost of traveling is two items. 1 flights tied to premium travel 2. Hotels, especially banded. If you own a home it’s like paying twice even if it paid for, and flying is just very expensive if your address is in the US. If your not tied to any location, I know 100% for sure as long as locations have 1/3 high cost, 2/3 low cost, it’s cheaper then living at home in the US paying for a mortgage. I’ve now traveled worldwide extensively for the past 5 years, East, West and South of Florida and the numbers don’t lie.

I was very surprised how expensive ihg cambodia was when i searched.

We do put our car insurance on vacation pause while we’re out of the country. We use USAA. Not sure if other companies allow the pause

I hope to retire that way in 7 or so years (still have kids at home). The big thing is that you have to be a person who can stand to move around and not have a "home" per say. Some people cannot do that.

I can tell you two haven't lived in the US for a while. $300 to 400 a month car payment?! Try doubling that for 2026. LOL

Every time I watch you guys I just want to sell everything and go very good video on explaining the cost of living in America and living somewhere else Only a few more months before retirement just got to get the wife onboard she is actually in London right now and heading to Greece for a wedding hopefully that will push her to say let’s go

It’s important to remember it’s cheaper for Americans to travel the world because it’s the strongest economy on earth.

I wonder what it would be for a single person, who likes simple things, kind of frugal ... maybe 60% of your costs?

sounds like fun. What did you do with all your earthly possessions? Sold them? Gave them away? stored them somewhere? If you are not planning to return to the US of A it probably doesn't make sense to keep anything here, I guess.

What plans have you made in case one of you die?

Thanks for this. We sold our house and downsized and are home basing in an apartment in the US with months of travel. Nice to see the budget ranges as we all have different budgets. I want to transition to full time travel, struggling with concerns of aging parents in the US holding us back a bit.
