He took a game of football that was played more like rugby and gave it its own real definition and structure, not to mention recognition worldwide. He used a chess board to create the formation system instead of allowing the team to all run around after the ball like headless chickens. That is why Preston won what they did in a unique way. It was not just because of Scottish footballers, and anyway, at least half of the invincible team were born in Preston. People do not give credit where credit is due and it is due big time to Major William Sudell, let's be fair. He gave the world the biggest sport in the world. You should be lifting this man's name high, because without him not only would we not have Preston North End, but the world would not have professional football either or a league system ! He is the greatest football manager the world has ever had but never known about. Why is that ? He was left to fade away in history, in disgrace due to embezzling money from a local cotton mill that he put into Preston North End. He left the club and country then died in South Africa. What a mess, what a shame and what a loss to our national game. Something should be done to rectify this travesty.

Over the years more Football Clubs wanted to join, so more Divisions added to the league ... up to May 1992 we had Four Divisions in The Football League ... League Division One, League Division Two, League Division Three, League Division Four
In the top League = Division One, if you won that Division, You were The Football League Champions and you had The Football League Championship Trophy from 1888.
Up to the Date of May 1992, all the Football Clubs in the four top Leagues were under The Football League structure. That structure made sure all the lower Leagues received money from the profits of League Division One ...
That is why the Football clubs in League Division One wanted to break away and keep the profits for themselves ... So They asked The Football Association (The F.A.) who organized The Football Association Challenge Cup (The F.A. Cup) competition and the organizing of The England National Team to take control of this new break away League of the Top Division Football Clubs ... the F.A. did and formed The F.A. Premier League in August 1992 with a new F.A. Premier League Trophy

So The Football League had to re-structure ...
The Second Division became The Championship Division ... If you won that Division you got The Old/Original League Championship Trophy
The Third Division became Division One
The Fourth Division became Division Two
