The correct way to define the Mario timeline is in terms of Before Yoshi and After Yoshi. Games with Yoshi are AY. Games without him are BY. Each instance of Mario meeting Yoshi for the first time is canonically the same moment.

This is where pedanticism meets reality and gets checked thoroughly. SMB Wonder qualifies because SMB is in the title? That means New SMB games are all qualified as well, and you left them out after defining that rule. I guess that means you're the asshole. 😂

One thing I think is neat about it is just completing levels won’t advance you, you also have to find a collectible. Which leads to a really fun level that starts right next to the goal but you have to avoid the goal and go find the collectible first.

Also features reversing gravity, blocks that send you back to the beginning and a moon world with moon gravity.

3D world is my favorite after 64. So fun

But also of a lot of Super Mario or Super Mario Bros. games (Luigi is often present in some form as well as Peach and Toad, Peach in the original game is supposedly the only one to have the power to depitrify the Toads so it's a hero that gets kidnapped), of Super Paper Mario on Wii, 2, New Super Mario Bros.The name is derived from the arcade game to state that well "it's Mario Bros." but better. I don’t think a lot of people realize how fundamentally similar 3d world is to the galalxy games. To me it’s clearly a direct follow up to those games in how it’s structured and the level design and all sorts of ways.

17:30 3D world was designed when stereo was the hot feature in TV marketing but released after the world had responded with a collective meh. I speculate that the game was greenlit as a part of a stereo 3D push for WiiU but had the stereo cut before release after Nintendo realised it wasn't a meaningful target market. Perhaps doubling the render workload for two eyes would have required compromises in level complexity to keep performance up and they decided not to take that deal.

Hello! I was one of the playtesters for Super Mario 3D Land! One of the first things we were actually told (some fun first-day-on-the-job trivia they wanted us to know) was that it was 3D Land because it was a hand-held title. So Nintendo's official stance (at least back in 2011) was that "Land" meant "original hand-held game".

I do think that 3D Land and 3D World were titled in reference to Land and World. The handheld game that provided a simplified version of what came on the previous console (Galaxy) and a large & bombastic home console entry for the next generation
