Labyrinth of the Demon King is among the most terrifying pieces of horror that I have ever encountered. The horror in this game doesn't come from cheap overused tropes, it comes from it's oppressive atmosphere, brutal gameplay and deceptively deep story that lingers long after the credits roll.
sounds a little like silent hill 2 with the idea james continues a cycle of torment and that he is in hell, and the resurrection based on his other bodies strewn around the game, but I think thats the only comparison I see, because the demons aren't spawns of the main characters guilt but the main character is strewn with guilt that his lord is dead and not him

Personally, i think jumpscares SHOULD be in most horror games. I just dont think devs should rely on them. A good story that progressively makes you feel more and more anxious and uncomfortable with a few jumpscares is best. Jumpscares should be the cherry,waffle cone, and sprinkles on top, not the whole sunday.

I'm so fucking sick of every horror game being ruined with an unkillable stalker. It's lazy as fuck and annoying. Not scary. I refuse to even buy a game that has one.. it's so common I have to research every game that looks like its horror themed to make sure it doesn't have one.. and about half the time it does. Complete deal breaker.

I must have misunderstood something because I wasn't expecting the Demon King to be counted among the four wardens, so going straight to his tower and final battle after the Jailer made the game feel truncated. If the protagonist is meant to carry the 4th coin/burden, it would have been cool to have a tower representing him before the King's, filled with his fellow fallen warriors and even his lord as the 4th warden.

@T-h-a-t_G-u-yThank you bro in the same night I got my most complicated nightmare even though it haven gave me any fear. So the nightmare was a mix of any inthouched thing in my life. My ex's house was a place where I and my familiy were trying to hide and do something until she and her family spotted us. Then the scene was a shithole. She was shouting at his father before us and meantime both her father and mother tried to serve us. After that we left the house altogether to ours, at that time she was pretty indifferent to me which even hurt while sleeping.
After all of that the scene was completely changed, my parents were divorced and I was with both of em in the same time trying to consolate them. I even got some scenes about my mom and aunt in our old house which was in a ghetto, than in the scene we three tried to clean up side of our garden wall sweeping all the garbage to the street which was cleaning by a neighboring woman.
Kinda late to this vid, but just wanna share my thoughts on why we personally have a burden. My personal take is that as humans, we all have burdens no matter whatever walk of life we came from. Thats why we start with a burden and have to win 3 more from the other 3 lords by relieving them from their burden of duty and sins. Might not be the most accurate interpretation but as a buddhist, i do interpret it this way.

@LoganRubianoUnrelated..but i thought of an old game..Apocalypse...you play as Bruce Willis against the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse...and the end was anticlimactic...basically you get possessed by the beast....so this doesnt strike me as something new...but good video and explanation overall...
@Grumpygamer-ld3xcI’m still in the Labyrinth. I’ve lost count of how many times I have taken the Demon King’s head just to awaken back in the forest. No matter what I do, I can never escape. The only solace I have is that I can cause the King some pain every time we meet.
@UndividedLordOfChaosYou don’t need to be genuinely scared by a horror game to enjoy it. I love horror games and I rarely feel truly scared playing them.

...I can imagine the seek for revenge and the illusion of future freedom making the protagonist's torment a part of the domain of the demon king, putting him at the same level as the wardens.

True horror is when you can’t sleep and you will never sleep without any light source near you. Also you will always want company and make sure that you don’t stare at the dark because it will stare back at you. One last thing. Hope you don’t get sleep paralysis because that will be the punishment. 😂

Buddy, the enemies literally wait around corners to jump at you. They will also sometimes flee from you during combat and if you chase them they just jump you from around the corner, sometimes with friends. All while some shrine dork chases you for a million years. Great game but it absolutely had jump scares xD

@Spruehwuerstlthe atmosphere of this game was so spooky i refunded it because it was too scary to play, that i think ,is the highest compliment you can pay a horror game

@NickLawverThe creepiest part of this game was getting out of the hub area while goofing around and found a few old rusted modern day shopping carts, I know it was probably just reusable assets but I like the implementations that time is doing a lot more than we realize is going on.
@madladsdabsThey probably added all the resources for the player to compensate for the utter ignorance and failure of players like me; old, spazzy and hopelessly incapable of moving the character with anything more than spastic reactions. (If there was a gun in the game, I'd be sure to shoot my own foot off.)
