Flaming hot take: musicians should not be well paid. Nor should actors. Or 'influencers/content creators'. You're living the literal dream of the plebs (myself included) that pay to see you perform. You have it good enough. Streaming services, managers, events companies, they shouldn't be making a killing either, but if you get to do this kind of a thing as your job (even briefly) you already won. Appreciate it! (Note that this does not apply to those who do this stuff in their free time.)

If you're fortunate enough to be an artist that DOES make millions, do the right thing and donate the majority of your profits to those who work in agriculture and city infrastructure. Thankyou and goodnight.

I started music production school in '05 and dropped out in '07 because i saw what a shit show the industry is. This is nothing new. This video should be titled "I just realized my area of interest is being destroyed by late stage capitalism". Seems like a lot of YouTubers are discovering this fact in the last couple years.

As an artist, I can't even count the amount of times I've deleted an automated email from Spotify because I already know it's gonna say "your song had 2 listeners"

I totally got what you meant at the end. When I was a university student, there was a "street music festival" at the town where we were on vacation. One of the campmates told, we should go for a concert, he heard one song from that band and liked it. So we went. For the next one and a half year I went almost all of their concerts (usually smaller ones, with local bands, or they played as an opener), and they recognized me in the crowd after some time. I was so proud, and I knew they were as well. Sadly they disbanded during recording their second album.
My other story is that I went to the introduction concert of a metalcore band, since one of my friends was playing the main guitar. They were awesome. I went number one fan of them immediately, went to almost all of the concerts. Sadly my friend left the band, and they could not find anybody half as good as him, so that dropped my interest in the band.
So, I second you. Support local bands, they are most likely doing it as a hobby, and they feel great when they see we show up.

When an AI video goes viral, it affects everyone working in the TV industry.... Not superstars... Regular ppl who it would've taken to create that content. Why are your emotions only tied to the ppl "using the platform" to make money?

I will say this. I never listen to music on Spotify. I tried it for a little bit a couple years ago and just... I like control of my music and the interface was weird. The ads were constant. Plus I only listen to music in short bursts and I like to listen to songs on repeat. So Spotify has always sucked for me. I grew up with CDs and MP3s. I never transitioned into Spotify. If I listen to music it's usually on YouTube or I download a song.

I generally like Drew's videos, but that is absolutely not fair use...

Fuck Spotify! I quit that service after 15 years of being a subscriber, when King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (my favorite band of all time in the whole world) removed their whole discography from it, so I left right with them. Never going back.
