The Problem with Unions

Video Overview & Insights

Income Inequality: The Hard Truths

My what a big nose he has

— @GRWM_EDC

Income inequality has become a defining moral challenge of our time, a division between rich and less well off that threatens the fabric of our society. How did we become the most unequal developed nation in modern times? What should we be doing to help those who have been on the losing side of this tectonic shift? Steven Rattner, who has been studying and writing about this issue for nearly 20 years, will offer a stunning presentation of the magnitude of the income inequality problem, including fascinating international comparisons and a thoughtful look at causes and solutions.

The same old B.S. argument that only holds water, if you refuse to look at the whole picture. YES, labor unions have and still do define each job, however that is because companies are always looking for ways to undermine the legal authority of the workers' contract. If for instance, it can be shown, in a court of law, that the workers didn't even follow their own contract rules, then the contract is subject to being invalidated.
I've never been able to understand why any employee, in management, would want to help undermine any labor union in the company, because those contractual cost of living adjustments, or benefit increases, usually filter down into the managers pocket also, because the company realizes they must give their managers the same, in order to have loyalty.

Most union workers are lazy is the biggest issue.

My wages are competitive because of my union. IBEW

Interesting note, "I dont go there so it doesnt bother me". Literally said it doesnt effect his life so he doesnt care that it ruins it for everyone else. Theres that leftist elitist out of touch mentality

The problem is there are not enough workers who are unionised

@mattsmith5142

I currently work for a Union and the Micky mouse nonsense I see on a daily basis would be the end of the world if it applied to their own lives on a daily basis. People punching into break, coffee, breakfast, talk time then change into uniforms...THEN take pre break, break plan, pre lunch, almost lunch, order lunch, go get lunch, set up smorgasbord, sit down..OH NOW your on lunch?!? Really?!?
Let me call a plumber to your house, let him do everything a Union worker does at the job and YOU have to pay a full 8 hours to this person and he doesn't finish and files a grievance on you! OMG it would be the end of the world. Union doesn't create a profit, it creates division. Yes the ideal is great but the practice? SPARE ME.
Before you reach into your whaaaabag and start hurling insults, remember I currently work at a Union shop and nothing gets done... NOTHING... except talking about how the company can pay more, but no talk about how we can grow company and make it more profitable.

@AlexMuchacho
@

Why union owners are rich as hell 😂 its all a scam 😅

@mg123rules
@

No no no! Unions use " threat of strike " , "work stoppage " to get thier demands met. Look at 1970s Bethlehem Steel, janitors " pushing a broom " making $20/hr. While a non union janitor in another factory is making $2/ hr doing the same. This is " Extortion " extortion is a criminal act. Union =Criminal organization! Fact! Dont work for Criminals!

@AprilHeidorn

So you want auto workers to get paid 3rd world wages while ceo' s are the highest paid in the industry worldwide? Japanese ceo's get 3 times the average workers pay. While U.S ceo's get over a thousand times the average workers pay.

@kenlutter2065

unions= leechin

@vicvic2081
@

Aside from a pension, unions are all hype.

@mmspence3004
@

Right it’s the workers who are trying to provide for their families. They need to take a pay cut not the CEO that makes an insanely bloated multimillion dollar sometimes multi billion pay package

Every company in every industry is making record-breaking profits. WE CAN AFFORD TO PAY WORKERS EIGHT DIGNIFIED WAGE.

Unions make a difference

@lindaburton2518

So the argument against unions is that: workers should be paid less, like in China. Got it….

@SSAugustine510
@

What a propagandist. A pure joke

@MrBaumGeo
@

The real problem… CEO’s , millionaire execs that keep getting raises cuz the millions or billions isn’t enough. Putting the blame on workers just trying to get by is a shame. Damn you you little weasel

@funkyscenario
@

Unions are NEVER for workers. They are, and have always been, for the UNIONS (i.e., the union bosses and union staff).

@CCoburn3
@

When there is union co-worker conflict, the shop stewards read the room, and play politics of favoritism and discrimination to protect their dues-paying nest.

@eddyvideostar
@

How is it that we can willingly throw insult and accusations at unions (the people that work and make businesses operate, the people whom are often the lowest paid in society), treat them like criminals, accuse them of being the cause of business collapse, and people who are just trying to cope with the rising costs of living, yet say or do absolutely nothing about the self proclaimed "elite" grossly over entitled people such as supermarket, aviation, mining CEO's taking home millions in remuneration every year with massive bonuses?

@Jer0tube
@

Get your hands on and sweat, you can’t do it

@ItsJokay
@

Nah let’s cap CEO and management pay raises and bonuses to save on costs instead and keep the unions. How about that?

@Mushicakes
@

Unions make it impossible to fire the incompetent, lazy, unreliable, terrible workers

@brittanyfehlings6838

Unions wouldn’t exist without the federal government protecting them with strikers so called “rights”. Unions should be illegal.

@michaelmiguelicutti2829
@

Union is cancer of society, make everything worse

@Boston_canon
@

The problem is the cost of living.

@courtneyboo90
@

This is 💯 true. I know it’s hard to accept but created additional headcount that is not fully utilized through excessive job qualifications and inflated wages above the true market value only causes companies to have to recoup those costs through automation and future job elimination. Companies have to return profit to share holders or they cannot exist.

@3ruffians10
@

Our union is terrible, it's really not even a real union... management allows them to keep it to make them happy. They actually fight more against each other than anything, stupid members

@namatc
@

its all about profit and corporate greed, honestly if you give the corporation leverage, union or non union, the corporation is going to run with it and take more and more until they completely devour you. This is why capitalism is going to fail, it will be profit over humanity.

@TruthSeeker717
@

UNION WORKERS ARE AFRAID OF CORPORATE AND THE UNION REP'S TOO. CORP. AND UNIONS ARE IN BED TOGETHER. FACTS.

@gregglevin5612
@

If companies make great value/quality products, the need to compete disappears, because the costumers will be brand loyal, and you can pay decent wages.

Instead this guy wants to 'compete', basically lose current costumers because the company makes crappy 💩, produced by workers who get paid 💩.

All so that the 😇 shareholder can increase their profit while the world falls further apart.

The logic of it all is 😔,😵‍💫, and 🤢 at best.

@AstuteClippy
@

@sammwewa8565

Ok let's compete with other countries. Drop the prices for food, rent, mortgages, health, etc. Wanna pay wages like other countries? Let's have prices like them. Want European wages, free Healthcare and education then.

@phillipborbon2059

This could be a propaganda commercial encouraging slavery ?

@Owl350
@

Grand dad used to beat it into my head to be loyal. Promotion got dropped. Got laid off. I will work hard. But for myself. I'm not doing shit for ANYONE who doesn't pay what I want. Most don't so I just pick the job that covers my bills with the least stress.

@CT-yc4gd
@

Unions only have to do that because CEOs try to put more work on a single worker without raising their wages.

This guy is a hedge fund manager, btw, he's not looking out for workers - he's looking out for the wealthy aristocracy that he is himself a member of, and which depends on workers being divided for his position and wealth.

@tomspettigue8791
@

No, America's labor market does not need to compete with the rest of the world. You honestly want people to be making $0.50 cents an hour here in America just so we can be more competitive with India? I can tell this guy comes from a very privileged background and is most likely a trust fund baby. He has never worked a hard day in his life. He probably still has somebody to dress him in the morning and spoon feed him breakfast.

@AK-47ISTHEWAY
@

LOL what a fuckin joke! Talks about how unions should play a part, and even GASP EXIST! I don't care how old this video is. I hope this embarrassment to the human condition loses his job and learns what it's like to have to actually work.
