I’m not into nightlife — I’m usually asleep by 9 p.m. I rarely eat Western food and prefer to cook most of my meals at home. Ideally, I’d like to live in a walkable area near a Muay Thai camp and a few good cafes. Being close to the beach would be great, and I’d love access to a pool.

My plan is to train in Muay Thai, spend time reading and writing in cafes, and just live a simple, peaceful life. I’m not interested in tourist areas — I just want to do my thing and relax.

Financially, I’ll have around $70,000 USD to start. My U.S. teaching credentials and TEFL certificate mean I could work if absolutely necessary, but I’d prefer not to until my pension begins in 2029. I also have a few hundred thousand in savings that I don’t want to touch right now.

I do enjoy cannabis and understand I’d need a medical card in Thailand. I also need to make sure I have reasonable access to healthcare.

The problem with a low budget is that it doesn’t account for currency fluctuations, which can sometimes be as much as 15–20%, and living costs still rise over time due to inflation. So if you arrive in Thailand with a budget that’s already stretched, you have no room to adjust. I also understand people who think, "Should I retire now at 50 with a smaller budget, or work another 15 years to have a much larger one?” You might not even be alive at 65, or your health could be in such poor condition by then. Anyway good video! 60k sounds arround what it really cost. Myself are kinda thinking 50k would be good for me.
