The Rick Rubin Interview

Video Overview & Insights

In this interview, legendary producer Rick Rubin shares insights from his incredible career, spanning decades of groundbreaking music. From his early work with Run DMC, LL Cool J, and the Beastie Boys, to producing iconic albums for Tom Petty, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, System of a Down and Johnny Cash, Rubin reflects on his creative process, collaborating with some of the most influential artists in music history, and the stories behind classic albums.

All my favorite albums in my high school years of all different genres were Rick Rubin and I didnt even know it at the time lol.. from LL to Slayer to Black Crows to RHCP

We played Under the Bridge at my religious boarding school talent show, loving it, and Tee-hee-ing cuz we snuck a Chili Peppers song into the show and nobody knew it except us. Even the religious people said “Amen” when we were done! 🤣🤣🤣

I really love the part of this conversation about GoGo all be at very brief. Gogo is still the heartbeat of DC to this day. I've played and go go bands for about 20 years and it is disheartening to know that the genre never really went mainstream despite its influence on main Street music.

I guess I never got SOAD, I hated it the first moment I heard it, and still cannot tolerate it. Rick seemed to indicate that RHCP and SOAD are similarly quirky and I don't think they are remotely comparable. SOAD was a momentary fad because it was bizzaro and unmusical (which of course because of its poor quality would never last) and RHCP was never that way. Even though RHCP presented different styles, and wasn't repetitive, it was never poor quality.

Merci Rick B pour cette interview captivante!
Très heureuse d’avoir découvert Rick Rubin, qui était resté pour moi un nom magique et mystérieux, imprimé à côté du logo Def Jam sur tant de mes disques préférés (since my teenage years!)

The amount of great songs that Rick has a part in is crazy. So many great artists have worked with him you really don't realize until they are put in order from the beginning I was in 7th or 8th grade when the Beastie boys album came out and it goes on from there

Wow! Rick Rubin is such a reasonably mellow cool guy. Just wow! I am not sure what I had imagined but this blows any expectations I had about him out of the water. How should I explain? - He seems so at peace with human beings - accepting them as they are without struggling against their God-given agency, and thus works well with them irrespective of how they live or where they are at in life. Very profound and easy to miss about him (Rick Rubin) and us (humanity).
