The Ritz Card Has a Problem

Video Overview & Insights

Is Marriott back? Did Chase just make the Ritz-Carlton Card MORE valuable?** In this video, I break down why I'm taking a fresh look at the Ritz-Carlton Credit Card, Marriott Bonvoy, and whether recent changes from Hyatt and Chase have shifted the premium travel credit card landscape.

You didn’t mention Club Level upgrades at Ritz hotel locations. Have you used that perk, or do you not stay at Ritz Carlton hotels because they are overpriced to begin with? Asking for a friend.šŸ˜‚

For years, I considered the Ritz-Carlton Card one of the best travel credit cards on the market. Between the annual 85K free night award, airport lounge access, and premium travel protections, it felt untouchable.

While, I have never owned the Ritz Carlton credit card. For me living in Los Angeles, with several Ritz Carlton properties it would, just be a "status symbol" card (my version of a "Black" card). (smile ... smile)

But recently, things changed.

āœˆļø My travel habits evolved

Searched for a link to the hacking video mentioned in a previous Marriott card strategy video. Can you send me a link? Thanks in advance.

šŸØ Marriott points continued to weaken

šŸ’³ My premium credit card setup became complete chaos

Ritz is a great card that I only use for Marriott hotels and in hotel dining, global entry and rental cars. It's so easy to offset the AF with airfare and a single night hotel stay. If Chase keeps it as is I'll keep it forever, whereas in the next year I'm dumping CSR, CSR B, and Ink Preferred.

— @chrisvalentine6098

And honestly... the Ritz became a victim of too many travel credits and too much spreadsheeting.

In this video, we'll cover:

I have 3 Ritz-C cards, so even though I am curious about a premium card from Hyatt, I am heavily invested in Marriott due to all my Ritz-C cards.

āœ… Why the Ritz-Carlton Card faded for me

āœ… The continued devaluation of Marriott Bonvoy points

I thought u were the dude from Trainspotting. lol. And that Sheraton in DEN made news. Largely bc how poor Marriott response was. Marriott gonna Bonvoy šŸ˜†šŸ˜’

āœ… Hyatt's recent award chart changes and why they matter

āœ… How I maximize multiple hotel credits from the AMEX Platinum, Chase Sapphire Reserve Business, Venture X, and more on a single trip

I don't understand why you guys have to spreadsheet your credit... and I have 1 Chase Sapphire Reserve + Preferred, 1 Amex plat, 1 Amex Biz plat, 2 Amex Gold, 1 Amex Biz gold, 1 Marriott Brilliant, 1 RC, 1 Hilton Surpass, 1 Hilton Aspire, 1 Bilt Palladium.

The trick to keep track of all their usage is actually quite easy - only remember the credit that you will use so you don't purposely use them.

āœ… Why the Ritz airport lounge benefit is still one of the most underrated perks in travel

If you're considering the Ritz-Carlton Card, Marriott Bonvoy, Hyatt, or trying to simplify your premium credit card strategy, this video is for you.

I have had Ritz for about 5 years. I am new to the CSR and living in a suburb of NYC I can easily use the Exclusive Tables as well as StubHub. For this reason I will keep it. I have always gotten value from the Ritz and I will keep it as long as I continue to travel. If I ever stop traveling then it would not make sense to me (unless I take a flight or two each year). I have my choice of two Chase lounges at my home airports of JFK and LGA. Lounge access is important to me- That said- My adult children are both AU so even if I do stop traveling, they can continue to use the benefits.

šŸ‘‡ Let me know in the comments:

Are you still holding the Ritz-Carlton Card?

Meh I got the Ritz Carlton card a few days ago. For my needs its more than enough.

— @hwanjung8230

And if Hyatt launched a premium credit card tomorrow... would you switch?

4 minutes in and you talk about number of points . But you only tell half of math equation. If one property requires double the points but gives triple points per $ spent then more points per redemption is actually a better value. Please compare apples to apples & also compare how each property awards those points.

1:36 The Best Travel Card of 2025

I don’t have the Ritz yet, but definitely want it. Has so many perks and I’d direct my hotel credits on my Delta cards - DS Reserve and Plat as well as Venture X and CSP to stay ay Marriotts.

Do you still have the AA Globe? Thoughts? I love both of my Delta cards.

5:04 Credit Chaos

6:50 Luxury Travel Redemption

Just upgraded to the Ritz last week, and opted CFU->CSP and CSR->CFF. The 'problem' framing is mostly clickbait (referring to the whole Ritz card YouTube space). The $300 travel credit drops the effective fee to ~$150, and the 85k free-night cert (toppable to 110k) clears that on a single luxury redemption.

I run a small business, and this card adds authorized users for $0, each getting their own Priority Pass, Sapphire Lounges included, plus primary auto rental CDW and trip protections that rival the Sapphire Reserve. I know it's not a business card, but extending lounge access and rental coverage to my staff at no per-card fee is the real sleeper play. It's arguably one of the best lounge-access cards on the market for that alone.

Is it flawless? No. It extends Gold status, not Platinum status like the $650 Brilliant, and you can only product-change in. But at $450 (less than the $795 CSR) for that benefit stack, calling it a 'problem card' is reaching. It's a benefits card, not a spend card; judge it on that axis and it's one of the best premium cards Chase still offers.

Sticking with the Ritz Carlton for now. It's the go to for Priority Pass + Rental car coverage for myself + AUs. Thanks for the info + video!

We love the Ritz. The 300 credit is super easy and the 85k spends well in Vegas. Just went on a trip with our daughter and her friend. We were able to meet them in the Sapphire lounge in San Diego. It was so nice. Easily one of our favorites, might not put much spend on it but it is a keeper (for now)

The Ritz card does hold some interest, but I have the same challenge you mentioned...with a bunch of premium travel cards, where does the Ritz fit in? I appreciate your review, but I am wondering one more thing...I think you have the AA Executive, which of course gives Admiral's Club lounge access...so, it seems that you not only have a crazy amount of hotel credits to manage, but a lot of overlapping lounge access at your fingertips. So, if you go to one lounge at an airport that has a bunch others...it's the same as too many hotel credits. For me, the Ritz would be much better if its "travel credit" was like the CSR...any travel, but the "airline incidentals" focus of it makes it tough, especially if you have the AMEX Platinum...which of course, is the same credit...

You don't have a Ritz card problem. You have a high AF problem. Mostly Amex. I would argue that for anyone not actively flying out of a Centurion based airport multiple times a year (10+), the Amex cards are not worth it. Especially if you are spread out with multiple ecosystems. Amex points are also harder to use to maximize value. The best Amex card for the average person is the BBP.

Next week in Kauai we are staying 2 nights at the Sheraton resort. It would have been $1,279 per night, but my 2 Ritz-Carlton cards got us 2 85K certs. Lifetime Platinum status has been great for us.

Love the RC for its simplicity - easy to use credit with no fuss. I have mine paired with a Bonvoy Brilliant to get that 2nd FNA. Not to mention, the RC Visa is such a beautiful and elegant card.

I can product changing into this card tomorrow, but I have been contemplating it heavily. I don't know if it's still worth it. I started down the road to it once news capital one ridding of lounge access with a family of four. But in the meanwhile waiting, I have picked up the Morgan Stanley platinum I've become accustomed to being OK with paying the small additional fee sometimes I'm lucky and only get charged for one kid and only traveling with kids four times a year. I don't know if it's worth the extra cost to have it in my arsenal. If I didn't get so much additional value out of the platinum, there would be no question. Minus the lounge access is your driving factor of having it?

I just got the Ritz card 1 month ago and so far I like it.

Do you have an offer to gain access to your spreadsheet? I have multiple premium cards and having trouble managing value across them all.

Thanks for the info! I didn’t know we can now add up to 25k points. Opens up a better value, especially now that many seem to be 105k points a night. (Coincidence) I’ll probably always keep it, one stay I’m in the positive. I will get the Hyatt premium if they release one.

RITZ CARLTON is still the easiest card to get full value from just 2 credits ($300 travel + 85k award) with better sapphire lounge access than sapphire reserve. Love this card even if never put any spend, other than $300 airline travel 1-2x a year. RC also shaves 15 nights off my 75 night Titanium status. Dump the sapphire cards and keep RC!
