Interesting you give a nod to Jeremy from Red Means Recording. He’s the reason I’m here watching this video.

I know it’s kind of niche, but here in the states, a lot of folks choose a career in arranging for marching bands and drum corps. I’ve heard arranging described by Jason Nitsch described as a gateway drug to composing.

I'm listening to Nevermind's arrangement of Goldberg Variations lately, honestly I think it has the best version of the "Quodlibet" I've ever heard, the texture the ensemble bring is impossible to produce on a piano.

Let's not confuse an arranger with an orchestrator. Often a composer will hand his sketch to an orchestrator who actually brings the music to life through instrumentation selection arranged within an arrangement.

Someone to remember as an arranger is Gil Evans.

@SoChuChuQuincy Jones arranged for Frank Sinatra.
That’s all I’m saying
15:48 Woooo this is phenomenal
@VocalEdgeTVtoo many edits
@notanotherjamesmurphy5574Bad arrangement and production can ruin a perfect song. On the other hand, good production skills can make bland material sound awesome. It is 15% creativity and 85% engineering.
@nangldGreat for classroom use! First video I presented to my arranging/composing class. It opened their eyes!
@susannace7259Useless video but ok
@markokaranfilovski6840‘And can even makes lots of money’ hahaha.. haha… ha..

@DoodleDuduDudeDid I miss something ? What’s the secret
@TodzuumI have not seen a Music Theory Essay Video on this Level! Info always on point and this editing Style?!?! So Creative and Effective and Engaging
@Baesef_LateefFunny. I grew up with the notion that producers were indeed very good arrangers. That’s how I felt in love with music production as an art form. That, and because writing songs takes a toll on me, but I love the moment of giving a sound to a song. I do not care for the business and psychology part of dealing with artists and musicians either. Hehe
@carlosaguilar9091That’s not a secret code, it’s just an observation about some times when arranging went well. Cool vid tho.
@anatomicallymodernhuman5175Cool video! But... what's the secret code to music arranging then?
@andrewcgsOne of my favorite arrangements was based on "Adagio for Strings," which used a choir instead and was emplaced in the video game "Homeworld." It's possibly my favorite rendition of the piece.
@Jamesthe1Click bait. There is no "Secret Code" to arranging in this entire video. It should be called, "Examples of Various types of Arranging: Without Really Revealing Any "Secrets" to the Actual Process".
@veritasmagnum668this aint a video its a bbc documentary but better
@ellaihWait, I love arranging! I don't know how good I am at it, but if it's such an awesome job, how do I apply?

@YXXXXNNI am deeply inspired to work with this from a deep self understanding that stories are something that goes through me and not just from me. my work (dr.zone-moon)
@DrZZZoneI love the french new wave like presentation and filming of you talking! this is literally my favourite video of yours!
@povilasl5383David makes such great videos. Arranging is a very interesting form of art, I think. It's almost like two composers being in conversation through time and space
@The8BitPianistGreat video!
I was thinking about ”Es ist ein ros entsprungen! There are many versions, one I think about is the swedish composer Jan Sandströms with the swedish text ”Det är en ros utsprungen”. It became a totally different version.
Great video David! Interesting note: For many decades now, it has always been the practice in Finland to credit the arranger right next to the artist and composer. For example, a televised performance always displays the name of the arranger of the musical work being performed. It should be a more global practice.
@keijosandvik6836Isn't that what saved the James Bond song from being dead-on-arrival?
@edsknifeGood example would be Genesis Piano Project.
