Hey guys, in this video, I'm breaking down everything you need to know about SoFi's checking and savings accounts, especially since their big SoFi Plus change left a lot of older videos out of date. I cover the current welcome offer and how to stack it with Rakuten for even more, the account basics and current APY rates across all their accounts, and how the savings vaults feature works to organize your money. I also get into how SoFi Plus membership works and whether it's worth paying for, the full SoFi credit card lineup, including the Unlimited 2% card, Everyday Cash Rewards, and the Essential card, and an honest look at the downsides after years of using SoFi as my main bank. This video encompasses what I wish I knew before opening a SoFi account, so if you've been wondering, "Is SoFi still worth it?", "Should I pay for SoFi Plus?", "What's the best SoFi credit card?", and more, this video is for you.
Anyone know why I’m being charged a monthly fee of $10 if I don’t have Sofi plus I have the standard

Why not use a bank that gives you 4% APY for no fee? isn’t that better for keeping 20k than getting 4.5% with SoFi while also paying $120/year?

Sofi has become to me what Apple is as well . I am very involved in the ecosystem and it would be hard to switch. I really like Sofi but there are some perks from other places I would want to get however I have a credit card, checking, savings, brokerage, and crypto account with them. I'll always be grateful to them though because I started learning about investing over 6 years ago because of the option to put my rewards from my cc into an investment account. Every reward I have earned since then has gone into that investment account.

04:25 How To Protect Your Identity
Just open up a Wealthfront account at this point. 3.3% apy, its a savings/checking in one. So you dont have the low rate on a checking like you do here with Sofi. You can get a debit card for it. They reimburse for ATM fees up to a certain amount I believe, and there is a lot of other benefits too. Sofi isnt that great at all...

I just switched from sofi to capital one maybe a month ago. I liked sofi a lot but getting cash for a home repair was a pain in the ass.

The more research I do the more I realize that your whole financial life should be set up with Fidelity. There’s just too many features and advantages to list out. And they’re not going to push crypto and gambling down your throat

so what APY account should I go with? is capital one 360 worth it? what about cit?
@BrixxmiNif you have the sofi plus , do you still need to hit the deposit requirements ?
@P4ttychandHonestly this video was very informative thank you
@TR3NDSTTRSI have a few hundred in Sofi mostly in the investment side. If they offer as much as fidelity I probably consider them
@darryl7464I sadly left sofi due to terrible exprience with there fruad system wasnt worth the hedache great video tho i can see how its worth it for some people just not for everyone
@DumeXL2006As Self-employed can have six figures income, but those are directly ad-hoc payments from each individual client, none Direct Deposit, none routinely 😢😮
@tmmy-w9vHow do you compare it with PayPal Savings? Last year it was 4% APY, currently 3.4% , without any direct deposit requirements, just transfer some money there see it's yielding 😂🎉
As self employed, I found super hard to qualify any offers requiring Direct Deposit, those Self-employed can have six figures income, but those are directly payment from each individual clients, none Direct Deposit, none routinely😢😮
Sofi offers more than normal banks would, that’s why they have a membership charge. It’s a 1 stop shop application. I don’t get the hate from others
@DK-jq9cbI wanted to see all the cons
@ASDPhilosopherI feel like I'd just stay with Ally. Similar features without having to do more work for Sofi + / minimum deposits.
@greginthepocketI recently traveled. Sadly budget small i did 100 incidental holds at a motel. They released it back after 3 days the motel. Sofi held it 3 more weeks!@@@@ i needed that money
@1970livetofishSoFi has access to all point. Most other banks have both all point and moneypass.
@ayankarIf SoFi is bad, how come nobody else complain about it but him☝️I pay attention. What people do not what they say what people do compare what they say it’s completely different.🤦♂️ i’ve been using SoFi for quite some time. I had no problems with it.🤷♂️
@Noble99218Short answer: Yes
Long Answer: Yes but there are just as good banks and even better in other ways
No doubt, Sofi gets lots of hype because they offer very good bonuses as an incentive to join. After the dust settles and you get your bonus, there are alternatives like Vio Bank that is briefly shown in the video, which gives 4% without any additional membership fee.
@Phanabot3-year member here. I signed up to keep Sofi+ for $10/mo., assuming the waitlist for the Smart Card would be quickly cleaned out. Boy was I wrong about that! Then they detached the Smart Card from Sofi+ and now I'm PISSED. This feels like I got "bait-and-switched" into signing up to keep Sofi+. The Smart Card and its 5% cash back would be SO useful to have right now! Their CC line limit is 7K, and because of all the monthly auto-debits I have attached to it, plus the amount of monthly on-the-fly shopping I do (including a LOT of grocery purchases), coupled with the previous month's balance (which I always pay off), I almost always reach $7K+ and have to make an interim payment before my autopay date. All those groceries I purchase should be on the damn Smart Card that I still don't have, which would give me a bigger "bang" of cash back, plus keep me from reaching that 7K CC limit and having to make those extra payments every month. And there's still no word on when I'll get my turn for the Smart Card, either!
INCREDIBLY frustrating!
I just got into crypto trading recently, and after following Jonathan Klausner’s guidance, I finally understand that Bitcoin trading is more about patience and discipline than chasing quick profits online.
@CameronBarakI switched to them a month or two ago. Unfortunately only got a $50 bonus because it was 25 calendar days instead of 25 business days to deposit $5000, if it was 28 days I'd have hit it easily. I did get the $125 Rakuten bonus.
I like it so far though. I get paid two days early, the app is great, their savings has unlimited transfers, so I'm just using it like a checking account basically.
Ideally, I'd like to work up to $10K in there, get SoFi Plus (it pays for itself at that point), then get up to $20K in there, and use the Fidelity Cash Account for banking thereafter.
robinhood banking clears
@NotPJHow do you compare this to Axos Bank? I'm thinking about switching to Axos because they offer a higher rate and provide access to 95,000 banks. They also have volts like sofi
@MoDoza623Dang, let me watch this I just keep my savings in there for 3.80 have had no issues
@KhristianM.Is Ally Banking good?
@33birdxtndOne thing about the smart card. I was able to get the SoFi smart card even without being a SoFi plus member. I only just recently opened a SoFi account in April and upon opening I instantly received an offer to get the smart card.
@Aidan706Check out wealthfront bank its a debit card with a checking account with 3.5% apy in the checking
@nonphotogenicfulWell, first of all. Thank you! This was very informative, and exactly the primer I needed for many of my SoFi questions. It isn't that I don't want a higher return on my savings, but maybe just too many hoops and MUCH too high of a threshold. $5,000 is a lot for a monthly deposit threshold. If we figured a simple 33% taxation level (give or take based on State specific taxes and income levels) that means SoFi is only interested in attracting clients that earn well over $100k a year. Because it isn't just taxes that get deducted. Medical insurance and retirement savings come out too. Some might be pretax, but still pulls net pay out of the equation either way.
Then to get more than 3.10% we pay. And to make the equation even worse...as you pointed out...over half of Americans can't afford a $1,000 emergency. But to break even on the $10 monthly fee we have to have $8,600 stashed. Again, this is pricing out the lower incomes. Yes, we should all save more, but that isn't where a lot of folks are.
And what about retirees? I know what my mom pulls down for Social Security and her pension. She has investments that would push her over the $5k a month, but not from government or company pension plans alone. So, anyone getting close to retirement might think twice about rearranging it all for this bump because their qualifying direct deposits wouldn't be enough (though maybe the qualifying deposit thing might work).
The other sorta grump I have about this whole thing is the opportunity cost. I'm supposed to get excited about 4.5% on my $20k? Normally I would be! But why is my $20k just sitting in a savings account instead of being invested? $5k makes sense. Make a little interest on my emergency fund. But $20k seems like my money should be working harder than 4.5%.
I'll stick with Capital One for now. 3.00% with no minimum deposit, no minimum direct deposit, no fees. And I can open additional savings accounts if I need "vaults". I actually have three. Is it optimal? No. Because I could pull down everything and run it all through SoFi. But there's something to be said for simplicity. If it was a difference of a regular bank's 0.01% and 4.5%...sure. But it isn't. Also...free cash deposit at most CVS and Walgreens locations, no fee. Not a huge deal since I don't deal with cash much...but once in a while. Thanks again. This video really did clarify a lot of things for me.
Sounds difficult for 5k a month?
@og_mexiYeah, I been banking with SoFi since 2018. I am leaving this year. I really don’t like the idea of a subscription fee to get a higher rate for something I was already getting for being a member of the bank by having direct deposit set up in there and I have enough in my bank account where I would still make out quite positive by doing the $10 a month fee, but I don’t like the concept of it, and I lost a lot of features that I used to have that are now behind a paywall for the bank that I bank at. So I decided I want to move my money local so I have a local savings bank that is becoming my checking account. What I like about this community bank is it’s not on the stock market so the shareholders are the members and the community so the money is kept in the community and their primary goal are the members of the bank not the stock market.
I use Marcus for my emergency fund and my health savings account, which is high interest obviously. I opened a Openbank account to put the rest of my savings to get the 3.8% which I know is variable and will probably change. I’m expecting Openbank at some stage to add checking and that will be a nice feature to have that stage. I have an Apple saving with the Apple Card and lastly I don’t keep much money in this at all, but I do have a PayPal bank account because of the 5% cashback debit card. I only use it for groceries and I also have $1000 in the savings account.
I’m basically simplifying my account I’m closing SoFi and the local credit union I was using for a local bank that supports organizations and community projects in my area, but I think we’ll have a greater impact as leaving my money in SoFi. I don’t see that at all in my area. And again it’s just for my main checking most all my money is in HYSA.
This is really well Edited mate, If you ever need an extra hand with editing, I’d be happy to help. Keep up the great work!
@7evenCreativesI had sofi for a few years the rates are not the best. I switched to tab bank another online bank from sofi. Tab bank has 2.75 apr plus 1 percent cashback on all purchases except bills for the checking. 3.61 apr for the savings. To me, what made it hard to pass up was their checking offer and they have early direct deposit just like sofi.
@23majesticblueWith the Iran deal triggering a collapse in oil prices, inflation breaking down fast, rate cuts becoming unavoidable, and the U.S. economy accelerating, this week sets up the most explosive short‑squeeze opportunity for SoFi as under‑hedged market makers and crowded shorts face a perfect macro storm.
SoFi will shock the world !

CEO Anthony Noto: “Our ambition is to become a trillion‑dollar company.“
SoFi stock can 48x within 10 years (Bear case on 40x P/E)
It would take a lot for me to move away from fidelity but I can see the appeal here. SoFi is very competitive in some areas but the additional hoops you have to jump through to keep those benefits are a bit of a turn off for me.
@Man_of_OilHonestly it's better to just invest in sgov which is t-bill. It's current apy is about 3.59 percent ish? And it's free from state income tax (still due for federal tax, though). Not financial advice and do your own research 😅
@CasinoRoyaleSkyfallThe Sofi 2 % card those require a monthly $10 subscription. I had the card and canceled it because I received a email about it. I’m not paying $120 a year for a 2% card 😂
@PeterLee.Robinhood Banking (if you have an invite) with 3.5% on both checking and savings accounts!
Lots of good options these days. SoFi’s Vault feature is unrivaled afaik.
This video actually convinced me to stay away from SoFi
@RafaPoke24Wait so is the grocery card going to be 5.5% back with the subscription? Or is the 10% boost only for the 2% catch all card
@MrMmitsch
