9:43 This is not Korean, but Chinese writing. More specifically, a mixture of traditional Chinese with one Simplified Chinese character, which is common for day-to-day Chinese writing historically (and in some Chinese communities now).

โLook at how happy I am!
The Communist Party says Iโm being tortured by the Allies after I have surrendered. Would you believe in that?โ
They are propaganda posters apparently.
Mr. Beat tells the story of the Korean War, aka "The Forgotten War," a war his grandfather fought in.

How cool is that box you got from your dad???
Similarly, I was living with my grandparents during lockdown and my grandma decided to a decluttering of her attic. She found thousands of old photographs and among them was a handwritten letter from my great grandmotherโs brother, dated June 1940 - he had just returned to Britain after being evacuated from Dunkirk ๐คฏ I couldnโt believe my eyes! She then said she remembers him telling the story of how they were being attacked from all angles so he prayed and in Welsh he said โout of nowhere this fog came and covered us so they couldnโt see us as we ran.โ
Made sure to take them and got them framed so they donโt end up lost for another 60 years!

North korean isolation isnt completely self imposed. Its basically banned from the world market even if they did want to join it because most countries have an embargo on them. Like with most communist countries theyre not just poor because communism

Well, duh. The most iconic landmark about Korea is the DMZ, and how do you think the American military got there without fighting in some war? Diplomacy is written in blood

I don't know where to post this, but I had just watched a Mr. Beat video on "the most average state," posted a comment, got a reply in my alerts to my comment but then when I went to see the reply the screen said, "this is a private video," and I couldn't see it or the comments, and it is not listed in my history. Something weird about the Korean War that often gets forgotten because of the modern day Korean political situation is that both South Korea and North Korea were dictatorships in the 50s, with South Korea only becoming a democracy in the 80s, meaning that it was a war between two dictatorships

This was is how we mastered artery repair, it was forbidden under US law buy the surgeons on those front lines felt their Hippocratic oath superseded their military duty and developed a technique that prevent loss of limb as the industry standard was to just amputate. A technique still used to this day.

@Kyle___0VPersonally, I believe the War of 1812 is more forgotten because the Korean War has become popular from being forgotten.
@WinterAurora-m3pWe had to choose a war to do a project on in high school; and I chose โthe forgotten war.โ
Iโm still so in awe of how much it affects the geopolitical EVERYTHING that happens today; and how little the average American knows about it.
Thank you for always being such a good American history teacher - Mr. Beat!

Tbh i respect the korean and vietnam war so much more then the wars weve had in the middle east, at least we were there for actual freedom on earth and not oil
@BlankFaceTxvery upsetting that a war that defined my country is so forgotten and ignored
@sarabellum2442The contrast between both countries is absolutely crazy. And unification is likely impossible without massive help from outside parties. North Korea would be absolutely unable to support south korea and south korea absorbing millions of people as well as the mass migration that would happen from unification would cause massive strain on their infrastructure.
Though it would help with their population declining problem.
You said this was the first time white and black folks fought alongside each other
But this happend in ww1 more then once
Just saying when you do an ad read and go "that's the freaking (insert place that sounds reputable)" it's an appeal to authority. Especially if it's a conflict of interest like a sponsor segment. Just show how it's good
@PhracticalMy father-in-law (Greg) and my brother's father-in-law (a different Greg) both fought in Korea. The only difference is that my brother's mother-in-law is actually Korean because that's where they met. My FIL Greg is now 94 years old and still golfs and shoots pool. He's a character...I love him and his sense of humor madly.๐
@SarahLuna-f5z4:00 not true, communism wouldโve been much stronger in the south if they were allowed in their western-backed โfree electionsโ and they didnโt kill over 100,000 suspected communists
@realer2748Slightly unrelated but all I knew about this war was from a Turkish movie called "Ayla" and that movie made me cry harder than I've ever cried in my entire life. If you want to cry for 2 hours straight, I couldn't recommend it more!
