My wife is an Old Beijinger. No, a lot of "Old Beijing" don't drink Douzhi. It's really interesting to tourists, though. One of the stereotypes of Chinese people is that they say "have you eaten yet" instead of "how are you". Nowadays, it is very rare to hear 你吃了吗, or "have you eaten yet?". Most everyone has eaten quite well these days! BTW, Beijing has been my home for almost 25 years.

I was laughing when I learnt that in china you don't ask ' how are you' but you say ' have you eaten'.

There was no massacre at Tiananmen Square at all. Gee, people still believe those suggestive pictures but lack real evidence. As a student who was at the square and also lived nearby, I never witnessed any deaths during that time. I do know a few people were killed in another part of the city due to a riot, and several police officers were among the dead. However, you cannot call that a massacre.

Every person in China of my age knows about the tank man, and we don't think he's heroic by any means. In China, it's extremely normal for people to not fear the military or the police, rather the regular residents of BJ normally look down on soldiers back then because they came from very poor background from rural China, and that is why most of the local residents, the bad ones, which I call hoodlums would attack the military personnel while they were there. There was no massacre whatsoever of innocent people, I was in BJ back then so I know, only hoodlums who refused to leave after continuous warnings to exit the area were hit. Tank man didn't spend a day in jail, which he should have because he misrepresented my generation. I'm from BJ and now live in the US, and never one day in my life that I sympathized with those ignorant people who participated in the protest. They were the product of that era, neither good nor evil, just ill informed morons who got misled by western propaganda.

No one is more obsessed with the 1989 Tiananmen incident than the Americans themselves. Actually, a lot of Chinese people know what happened in that date even tho the internet and information is highly censored. It's just they move on with their lives just sidelining whatever happened in 35 years ago . Unlike Americans, for whatever reason are obsessed with that incident even more than the Chinese themselves. I mean, US federal government and its institutions kill more Americans annually with regarding to endless wars and unfixed healthcare system, but no, Americans are more interested in shitting on whatever happened on China three decades ago than fixing their own 'democratic' 'pro-democracy' 'pro-human rights(ask Iranian school girls)' government. The shameless hypocrisy is unbelievable.
