This Protestant Prayer Book is So Catholic!

I'd highly recomend the Valley of Vision. It's a collection of Puritan prayers that have really helped me.

They have prayers regsrding specific doctrines, circumstances, and also have morning and evening prayers for each day of the week.

Well the protest was against the things the Catholic church or pope was getting wrong. Like selling indulgences where people thought you could buy a place in heaven. And like Luther wrote in thesis 82. There Luther argued that if the pope truly had the power to release souls from purgatory using the "treasury of merits," he should do so for love and kindness, not for money, particularly money used to build St. Peter's Basilica.
And he also had some problems with the Pope's power and the extra ecclesia nulla salus. Which basically meant the "Greek brothers" were beyond salvation

As a Continental Reformed guy, this BoCP is close to my heart. Both Bucer and Vermigli assisted with its composition and gave Cranmer theological guidance.

Catholics do not have the gospel. The gospel is required to have the scriptures. That explains catholic history.

Anglican is barely Protestant. That's like buying a cheese burger from McDonald's, taking it home, changing out the buns with store bought bread while keeping the patty and ingredients, and then calling it a homemade cheese burger

The American Episcopal Church has two apps (Venite and Forward Day by Day) that do the same thing, which is do all the page flipping for you and lay it all out. You can customize all kinds of settings as well, and both have websites where you can get the same thing as on the app.
Don't get me wrong, being able to use the BCP and a Bible is great, but the only reason I could do that now is that I understand the basic "shape" of the Daily Office.
The Forward Movement also has podcast versions in all the usual places, updated daily, which is great for listening to on your commute.

I cannot follow anyone who is not following Jesus. Anyone who breaks the Ten Commandments does not follow Jesus. I see your desire to have a more robust faith... I used to think the Anglican church was such an awesome middle ground. I struggle though because the more I learned, the more I realized that its claims dont actually work. The modern Anglican world is attempting to be as catholic as possible without submission to the Church. I had to leave it because I realized that history does not support the Anglicans.

Every sect of Christianity besides the Orthodox leans on the Catholic church for all the work they did. None of you Christians would be Christian without Catholicism.

I tried it but it didn't work for me. I am not saying it is wrong but it is a tradition over substance for me personally. I would also say that if we are struggling to pray that is when we are to rely more and more on the Holy Spirit and Scripture - Spirit and Truth.

I believe and practice that order, too! I don't pray at the same time every morning but I do pray in morning and night. And sometimes during the day either spontaneous prayer!
The book sounds like it would accentuate the believer's prayer time.
My order of Bible reading is two ; through the Bible in a year, and through the Bible in two years.

High Church.

The Valley of Vision is another great prayer book for Protestants, each one is a rich meal for the soul.

Ditto! In 1980, I married an Epicopalian, and had started going to Holy Eucharist with him when we were dating in college. At a time when college Newman Communities were loosy-goosy on everything, the Episcopal Church offered me a worthy refuge, and though we were married in the Catholic Church, we worshiped and raised our family in the church until 2003 when the liberalism in the Episcopal Church became too much, and we left. The Book of Common Prayer is still in use by myself for those occassions of prayer that are stifling. I now carry with me a distilled copy of it by the Anglican Church in North America ( ACNA). I use my regular B of C when at home. It continues to be a prayer-asset in my life. The language is inspiring, & it's all Scripturally based. The 1929 prayer book is beautiful also, though neoclassic in vocabulary. I commend it to you! Pray on!

Do both! Pray the prayers of the church and the saints, and they will shape your personal prayers to be more meaningful, and in touch with the Spirit.

CONTEXT: Pastors were thrown in prison for refusing to use the book of common prayer after the Act of Uniformity in 1662. Over 2000 pastors refused to use the book of common prayer and were consequently forced out of their pulpits. John Bunyan is the most famous of these.

Modern churches lack depth

I love the BCP. I’m Presbyterian and it’s been the center of my prayer life for years. I think it’s interesting how many Christians love the BCP but are not Anglican.

The primary reason why I am not Anglican is the lack of uniformity and the idea of simply borrowing from other traditions rather than developing a distinct identity. I think there is some goodness in the ecumenical approach of Anglicanism, but it comes at the cost of coherence and theological quality control. The excesses Anglo-Catholicism, whatever that is, come to mind.

I’m on track to being confirmed into the ACNA Anglican Church next month. I feel at peace within my local Anglican parish, and I love reading the BCP.

As a Catholic, I once tried praying the Liturgy of the Hours. I did 2 or 3 days, then found out that it isn't for me in my current stage of life. I was reading the words just to do it, brainlessly, for no reason. I'll definitely try again in the future. It would help a lot to say it with a group of people together.

THe longer I live, the more peculiar become the practices and concerns and outlooks of literal Christians, especially the devout ones. As if all this stuff corresponds to external reality.
