If this didn't happen it's most likely that Titanic would've been used as a troop transport in WWl and WWll and either hit by torpedoes and sunk or wound up in a scrap yard at.the end of its life, its almost like a celebrity who died young and is always remember for what they were at that moment in time😢

Good nfilm really with a lot of interesting information, I fist heard of the Titanci's tragedy wen I was a teenager, and went to consult the newsppers of the time, and what is said is so true, we must never consider anything we made as not failing n matter the circumstances. QW ahould alwas bye careful and do our best to take the right decisions.

During wars,ships lost with a huge loss of life are offbounds. Seen as memorials and graveyards. No diving or taking of personal items.

Yet, the Titanic is considered as an auction block for greed. Sad.

There's also multiple reports of seeing CPT Smith and Mr. Andrew's being washed overboard together.

The human hubris of flaunting an object as unsinkable. Not having enough boats. No drills. Class warfare. Refusing to want someone from steerage in the boats with 1st class. Not loading boats to their capacity. Total insanity. Also, people run to the Purser's area to obtain their jewelry instead of going to Lifeboats

The story of the Titanic has so many elements which make it so memorable, the maiden voyage element, the binoculars locked away somewhere, the lifeboat shortage, the individual tales of heroism and sacrifice, the controversy over the ship which never came to the rescue, the wireless technology aspect, the media frenzy, the social class element, the fact it remained lost for so long....

The Titanic proved not as titanic as she was expected to be. Anyway, this tenth launched out of the dozen of North Atlantic fourstackers remains the BIGGEST of eleven such ships, actually put to service between the two Worlds. Her gross tonnage was 46.329 RT, and her (four and a half days long) service was the shortest. As it happens, the eleventh ship of the dozen launched, the Cunard's 44.785 ton 'Aquitania', had remained in service for ca. 36 years and TWO WORLD WARS!

At 7.50 p.m. on April 14th the SS Mesaba's wireless operator Stanley Adams sent the following ice warning: "To Titanic In Lat. 42 N. to 41.25 Lond 49 W to Long - 50.30 W saw much heavy pack ice and great number large icebergs also field ice. Weather good, clear" The Titanic was inside the rectangle blocked out by this warning.

Ismay tried to evade American jurisdiction by sending a message to the White Star offices in New York and asking them to hold this other ship the Cedric until he and the crew came so they could go back to England as soon as possible. To that he added "Propose returning on [the Cedric] myself." He made the message look even more suspicious by signing it "Yamsi" his last name spelled backwards. Congress heard about it through the USS Chester though and Sen Smith was able to form his subcommittee to investigate the disaster

About the role of lifeboats as "ferries" between the stricken ship and the rescue ship (so that there was "no need" to have "boats for all") I think the trouble with that approach is by the time the "ferries" made one trip and came back the stricken ship might've been in a far more precarious situation if not already beneath the water. So with a full lifeboat complement and a nice and properly trained crew it would've all been more effective and faster everyone would've been evacuated at the same time. The normally stormy North Atlantic is no place for such "ferries" especially if the crew had to row (the boats weren't motorized) the poor crew would've for sure been exhausted from rowing in choppy waters. That night the sea was "like a millpond" (Ruth Becker) and it seems largely forgotten that this is really the exception on the North Atlantic. (And the very fact that it was so calm makes it very easy for people now to think of lifeboats as "ferries")

Also the word was spread at the time that the North Atlantic run was so busy "there were always other ships nearby if anything happens." The Titanic was doubtless no exception the Californian was only 10mi away or most probably less than that (donkey boilerman Ernest Gill and carpenter James McGregor saw the Titanic's distress rockets very plainly as did the officers) but then (a) she was the one and only ship really close and (b) Cpt Lord just wouldn't do anything (not even as little as wake up Cyril Evans just a few steps away and have him check on the situation). And then apart from the Californian all the other ships contacted by Phillips and Bride were much further away. The Carpathia for just one was no fewer than 58mi from the scene so she needed 3.5hrs she didn't get there until 1h40min after the Titanic slid beneath the water.

In closing what real good is a ship nice and "nearby" on "the always busy North Atlantic" if the captain just won't bother?

George Behe wrote a book called “Fate Deals a Hand” which is specifically about the gamblers on early-20th c. ocean liners but fate obviously also took a hand in the Titanic's story.

In an effort to avoid lawsuits White Star sent representatives to hospitals where victims were recovering and tricked them into signing declarations that they wouldn't sue, in exchange for 25 pounds. That's downright obscene.
